Australian sailor Tim Shaddock is returning to Sydney without his loyal companion Bella after they were rescued despite the pair spending three months adrift in the Pacific Ocean together.

Mr Shaddock, who said, at times in his ordeal, Bella was braver than he was, left her with members of the tuna boat which came to the pair’s rescue.

Mexico is not an approved country for pets coming into Australia and the process to bring Bella home would have been lengthy.

Tim Shaddock says Bella is the “spirit of central Mexico”, and the crew would take good care of her.

  1. The man kept the dog alive for 3 months, sharing extremely limited food and water supply with her, and you criticize him? For not wanting to stress the dog for months? Not to menthon the emotional and economic toll for him. Also he survived a very traumatic event, he himself may recognize he's not ready to take an extra responsibility right now…

  2. Nobody can leave a child! I would have stayed the few months it would have taken him to get the paperwork done. Animal crualty. Somebody must see that this hillbilly never laid his hands on a pet again. Hateful disgusting piece of meat!

  3. It's a shame! It's a shame! O LORD, i weep for you Bella! After the sod took you to sea, after all you have been trough & has endured because of thís *** , you have no longer us for him, no longer part of his family. With actions you couldn't understand, he left you! I can kill him with my bare hands!!
GOD, please GOD, avenge this little angel. Please!!!

  4. Erm fck that i want my dog… Like screw it gas my boat back up n me n my dog will cruise back home… That dog is like family and in vin diesel voice " family never gets left behind"

  5. "Hey thanks for being by my side forever and getting me through that mess……well, see ya" what a loser.

  6. I just watched a brief interview with Tim and he mentioned that Bella is a mexican dog that he adopted and that he is aware that she will be taken care very well there. I originally thought that Bella went all the way from Australia to Mexico, but I was wrong.

  7. YOU TOOK HIS DOG!!!!!!!! WTF??????? THE ONE THING THAT KEPT HIM GOING AND YOU TOOK IT…. SHAME ON YOU ALL I DONT CARE ABOUT THE LAWS THIS IS ABOUT THE MOST HUMANE THING TO DO….. LOOK AT WHAT HE HAS JUST BEEN THROUGH 😡😡🤬

  8. This is what happened to the war dogs of Vietnam. Couldn’t come back to America so the dogs were sold to the south Vietnamese.

  9. Bad and bad bad old man why Bella gave u strength and keave her behind because she is Mexicanza? Australia doesn't accept pets that bella is your life with her u could ending up from that sea. Be greatiful and adopt her in Australia she is your history , none will hear you withoit her. Australia gov is illegal

  10. I would’ve been a Mexican citizen that day, I could personally NEVER part with my dog.. I be trying to make deals with the high heavens to take years off of my life just to give to my dog and spend more here with my boy

  11. No EPIRB, radio, route plan contingency with a land base person.
    No clue
A risk to himself and others
    What a conceited idiot.
Not fit to keep a dog if his actions starve it.

  12. Importing animals into a country isn't so simple, you need identification, pet passports, vaccines etc. and then you need to wait months for the vaccines to be effective. And then apparently Australian customs would still not authorise her into the country. Also for a dog this size she would need to travel in the luggage area which can be traumatic. Also we don't know his home situation, if he's able to provide her with proper care etc. He never intended to adopt her to start with, and it looks like finding her a good home was the best thing to do in her situation.

  13. , shameful he abandoned the dog, it will be traumatised after being alone with him all these months. Hope it haunts him.

  14. Bella is Mexican. And if he gave her up so easy he doesn't deserve her. Plus now she has a whole boat crew as her mommies and daddies. All i see is wins for cute bella pup. 😍 💕

  15. You made it through your experience lost at sea because of the companionship of the dog. That dog right now is most probably distraught because you dumped it off on someone else. The dog isn't in the best of health so this trauma will cause it more problems. How can you sleep at night.

  16. Bruh who the fuc cares, man barely alive, yet now all the focus is on how "he cruely abandoned his dog" lmao😂😂😂

  17. She would have spent a minimum of six months in quarantine in Australia and the coast would be ridiculous , let’s hope she gets the owner she deserves , I was expecting a skinny dog after all that time adrift , but on a raw fish diet she looked sleek and shiny , a beautiful dog ,

  18. Yeah, had that dog come to Sidney and somehow disembarked, she would have found herself in a kill room to be euthanized. She was looking back for him there at the handoff. Hope she bonds with her new owner. She apparently was a stray that was drawn to Tim, maybe sent to be his guardian angel at sea, who knows. I would be interested to see if she stays with this man or goes back to the streets

  19. if he had a daughter would he leave her in Mexico too? Did the sun maybe burn his brain cells away? Any normal human would never do that.

  20. Have you ever heard of Mexican Dog Fighting? They have dog fighting (peleas de perros) in Mexico, I hope the they feed up Bella and let her get strong before she is used for fighting, thats why the boat crew grabbed Bella so quickly.

  21. I suspect once a sailor always a sailor so he will return to the sea and Mexico before long more loved over there than he is here in Australia.

  22. What a heartless narcissistic jerk that guy is. That poor dog would have ( and almost did) died for him. It’s absolutely possible to bring the dog back under Australian quarantine laws – it would just require lots of money and time. This selfish man just dumped his loyal companion. Imagine what he would do to a wife and kids. I hate stories like this. Poor dog.

  23. Just shows man's best friend isn't always man's best friend. But then most people still pay for animals to be killed against their will just so they can enjoy a couple of minutes sensory pleasure while they chomp on their body parts. Says a lot about humans unfortunately

  24. You bond with your dog through a life or death situation and then can't have him? Talk about heartbreaking…What the hell is wrong here? Is humanity lost? No way would i have let my dog be taken from me!!!
