Zhou Guanyu's terrifying British GP crash and how F1 escaped something worse

Spread The Viralist

Formula 1 narrowly avoided disaster on more than one occasion in the opening moments of the British Grand Prix.

Not only did Alfa Romeo driver Zhou Guanyu escape unhurt from a terrifying first corner crash, but the resulting red flag saved us from potentially witnessing a tragedy, as it meant protestors that had invaded the track after the start were not encountered by the cars at racing speed.

After those two situations fortunately played out without anyone being harmed, the small matter of a sporting contest took place, and that was filled with plenty of drama as well, particularly for the championship protagonists.

  1. Those protestors are grade A FDA-certified nutjobs. Don't ever invade a circut during a race. Not only are you putting your life in danger, but what if Max and Charles are neck and neck, tire to tire coming round towards it. Charles sees them and tries to dive left but Max cuts him off, causing a massive collision, now there's debris flying at 200kph in all directions, potentially drivers at risk, and the rest of the grid only a few seconds behind the debris field and likely-injured protestors. Numbskulls.

  2. Guys, you have an amazing account, but you should play some music on the background and change the speaker. He has a terrible pronunciation and voice

  3. Just imagine the cars coming at speed to those idiots, hard braking and someone checking there stearing wheel and crashing into the back of another car, could of been very messy!

  4. Vettel showed a V10 engine with carbon neutral emissions and they still think it's more productive to invade a piece of tarmac with vehicles going upwards of 250kmh? Bafflin

  5. Lecler getting a bit up his ass at the end of the race there. Ferrari have sacrificed Sainz for Lecler many times this season. He deserves his win, even if it makes the championship battle a little harder. Same goes for Perez

  6. Having been involved as a mechanic and a driver in dirt Sprint Car racing in the United States I have witnessed some terrible accidents that Halo saved Zhou always safety first we are all familiar with the risks we take and we are all family in the open wheel racing community Best wishes to everyone and their families

  7. I am so very glad that Zhou was doing well after the crash and the halo as well as the crash fence worked as designed. Yet, the driver was wedged in that space and the stewards had a challenge to get the driver out. No one has discussed the possibility of fire in the equation. In such a situation, as what happened with Roman Grosjean, every second means life or death. The driver needs to be able to get out on his/her own. Hopefully, the experts, the drivers, and the drivers assess and work towards further improvements in driver safety.

  8. Man, hippies are annoying around all parts of the globe. Doing the Zapp Brannigan strategy eh? ; "We'll send wave after wave of our own men till our demands are met, RIGHT MEN?!" yea, you guys suck. Go to actual oil refineries and do something at the source, you guys are basically attacking a Grocery store for filling its stores by using 18-wheelers to bring product in.

Attacking F1 in the name of Oil is like Yelling at a fast food restaurant cause they stop selling breakfast at 10am and not 1pm like you want.

  9. Most anti oil activists are just dumb and dont actualy want the solution , just something to kick the can down the road. Why ride your bike to work when you culd protest for "a cleaner planet" and say ev cars would magically solve all global warming.

  10. Well what do people do as we now missed any chance of keeping av temp rises under 2 deg and that's catastrophic yet no credible response anywhere !

  11. What a group of zealous idiots. If I wanted Putin to become president of UK – and gathered enough followers – would I feel entitled to sit on the track? Their environmental claims are as baseless as their minds – and self-entitlement – are empty (of course, just as soon as one evaluates to bigger/systematic picture and loses the "oooh, black juice bad, ooooh, panda bear/whale/polar bear very very good"). Happy the Chinese driver got away with a fret – halo must have done its job. What a sport. Keep it up!

  12. Why is this concidered Chaos ? It's top level professional on the edge auto racing. Accidents happen . Racing at this level os never going to be safe. But when was the last F1 driver who died during a race ? In the past it was common to lose one or two drivers a season. F1 has never been as safe as it is now. You can tell how many current fans have no idea of the history of F1. Who cant have cutting edge technology and the speeds the cars are traveling now without an occasional accident. And now look how well the safety equipement now works

  13. Man, if one of those protestors got hit by a car at speed, that would be horrible…for the driver. The protester, no great loss.

  14. Someone tell those protesters that carbon neutrality is not possible. Embrace the death of humanity in a few decades and let the lizard people take over.

  15. The biggest problem with F1 is ALWAYS the 1st corner. Everyone knows if you’re not up front coming out of the 1st corner you may as well retire from the race as there’s little chance of winning…. The drivers that take huge chances in corner 1 usually ruin the whole Fukn race. F1 needs to start fining and suspending drivers who dive into the 1st turn of any track and cause an accident…

  16. What I don’t get is how come schumacher‘s haas keeps totally braking apart in accidents and zhou‘s alpha looks pretty good considering the accident he just had
