Meatball Sub at DeFalco's Italian Deli, Scottsdale, Arizona
Spread The Viralist

DeFalco’s is an Italian deli and grocery store in Scottsdale, Arizona. Get the details here: http://migrationology.com/2014/01/defalcos-italian-deli-scottsdale/

Scottsdale is located adjacent to Tempe, Arizona, where I attended Arizona State University. When I was going to school, my roommate introduced me to a restaurant down the road known as DeFalco’s, a really home-style Italian deli and grocery store. The family run business is nice and local, and just has a nice friendly feel to it as soon as you walk in the door. When you walk in the door at DeFalco’s you’re first greeted by a range of different groceries on sale, things like olive oils, a large selection of wines, pastas, sauces, marinaras, and all sorts of things you would need to cook an amazing Italian feast. But the main attraction for myself is to the back of the shop where you’ll find the fridges full of delicious deli meats, house made sausages and salamis, and a full fridge full of antipastos and salads. If you love Italian food, your mouth will begin to water at this point.

I don’t eat Italian food very often, rarely do I stray from my Asian food palette, but occasionally, like if I happen to be in Arizona, I like to eat as much Mexican food as possible, and also eat at DeFalco’s every now and then. The menu at DeFalco’s is posted on the back wall, and you just sort of walk to the back of the shop and place your order, and then choose a seat and your order will be delivered to you as soon as it’s ready. There’s a full menu to choose from, including all sorts of hot and cold sandwiches, pastas, and then of course that full cabinet of antipastos. I know the metball sub is not the most Italian authentic dish one could order, but I’d have to say that at DeFalco’s they make it incredibly well. I find it hard to order any other thing on the menu than the meatball sub because it just always hits the spot. So the day I went into DeFalco’s I couldn’t resist my usual order – the meatball sub.

The meatballs were huge, and spiced nicely, not spicy, but filled with herbs and just the right amount of seasoning and saltiness. They were also just the right texture, meaty, but tender and soft, my teeth slicing right through the meat with ease. The marinara sauce at DeFalco’s is also quite wonderful, tangy, but not overly sweet, and oozing with flavor. Finally that cheese they used was not overpowering like it can sometimes be at other restaurants where you order the meatball sub, instead, the cheese was a complement to the meatballs, secondary. The generous sized meatball, oozing with sauce and cheese, came filled into a large roll, toasted to perfection. I think DeFalco’s Italian Deli has one of the best meatball subs in all of Phoenix, and they also have many other delicious items on the menu. If you enjoy Italian food in a nice friendly atmosphere, be sure to go to DeFalco’s when you’re in Phoenix, Arizona.

  1. Although I love his videos; what does he do? He has no affect on society. He needs a real job. Only a pansy eats his way through life.

  3. It's very interesting to know that the bongo chillies both big, small and tiny follow you to every corner of the world. I love it too with my meals. A very delightful chilli bursting with flavor. One chilli lover to another. All the way from Fiji. 🌶️🌶️🌶️

  4. You should be embarrassed with those face expressions you're so cheap you probably got those clothes from a second hand store and someone probably bought you that meatball sub that's why you like it even more stop those nonsense faces

  5. Loved it! I'm a big fan of meatball subs, which I usually make at home. I use homemade meatballs and sauce, on fresh bolillo bread rolls.

  6. I envy you, Mark it's been years that I haven't devoured a real Italian hero, none here worth the time and peso's in Colombia S/A!

  7. Their lasagna is a joke. I saw many people eating the deli sandwiches and I would agree to stick with the sandwiches….you cant screw that up. The sauce on the lasagna was so thick, I thought they had accidentally used pizza sauce. Nothing wrong with Mexicans in your kitchen, just dont have them cook any pasta dishes. I wouldnt mind spending double if I had gotten fresh authentic pasta. I will stick with Tesoro for fresh pasta. I only came here because some fat guy with frosted hair recommended it on one of his shows. My mistake.

  8. While you were at ASU, did you ever eat at In or Out across the street? Their cheese steaks and meatball subs were da bomb!

  9. It is a pepperocini pepper mark. Come here to Chicago mark, lots of good eats. Great vids btw! Hands down best foody on YouTube
