  1. I understand what you mean when you say someone could catch your leg.
If you're used to watching MMA fighters kick, you might get the impression that you can just catch any kick.
But no one is going to catch the leg of a kickboxer, Taekwondo practitioner, or Muay Thai fighter who learned how to kick in the 80s or 90s — or at least someone who was trained in that style.
Sorry if I sound arrogant, but it is what it is.

  2. I see what you're going for and I respect your points. But as a TKD Martial Artist, I can tell you that once you master balance with a single leg, it'll become a massive advantage. Shifting your body weight to the point of contact can give you immense power whether it's punches or kicks and combining that with movement speed is a great advantage. Kicks to the side of your thigh can work too.

You can use kicks in close distance cause Inside and outside crescents exist. Combine the crescent kicks with axe kicks and that's a devastating combo for close range. Punching is also great but palm strikes with rotation of your wrist and forearm are safer for less pain to you and more pain to them. Though, punches are great for hitting the neck, liver, etc.

As for when they grab the leg, it's unlikely cause of the speed of retracting, but if it does happen, you can shift your hip downwards with a quick motion and turn it into a sidekick for the face or neck. If their grip is too strong and they are closing in, you can bend your leg and push/pull yourself forward and jump with your leg that you still have standing and kick their groin. They'll let go, and once you fall you can get up real quick cause of adrenaline and survival instincts. If they grab your shin instead of your ankle, then simply grab their shirt and if they don't have a shirt just hold onto them and strike their nose, but you must be quick for all of these things. That's why you train.

Again… I respect your points. But in a street fight, limiting yourself to punches isn't a great idea.

  3. 1) That's why you practice kicking outside your gym where the ground isn't grippy so you are used to it. I've practiced kicks with literal puddles that are prone to me slipping and my kicks are fine.

    2) Case by case basis. I usually do have tons of room to kick.

    3) If for any reason your opponent has grabbed your leg and you cannot escape, you either

    A) Don't have enough knowledge/training with kicking therefore shouldn't be doing it.
    or
    B) You messed with the wrong person as they probably either have the advantage in size, skill, or both.
