Modern Marbles
With the Murrow Bridge The issue here was saltwater corrosion and also it was damaged by storm surge. What fixed this problem was they replaced all the anchors with rust proof steel and they installed buoys in the channel so boats do not go through the center and must go under each of the arch bridges in order to enter Lake Washington and to Kushman Bay as part of Puget Sound. Another thing they fixed is they no longer use the pontoons for storm water because that is what caused it to collapse the first place. I've been over the Murrow Bridge and I also been over Galluping Gertie that is two famous bridges off my list and several more to go.
Today we do not use chain bridges. What happened on the Ohio River also happened over in San Francisco during the Loma Earthquake. Both of these Bridges were cantilever chain link suspension bridges which means that they are held in place by 215 shearlink pens. If one of these fails, the entire bridge will collapse. That's what happened during the Loma on the Bay Bridge at Pier e9. One of these eye bars split and the pier itself collapsed taking out a whole deck of bridge with it. Learning from this mistake, Caltrans replaced the bridge with an elevated span and single span cable cable stay bridge that way when an earthquake hits it will not get destroyed. American bridge and the barrel of standards strictly says you cannot use a chain Bridge in any construction whatsoever because if that eyebar fails it will go off like a gunshot and take the whole bridge out. That's why this type of bridge design is now illegal.
My oldest sister had a Corvair, my youngest sister had a Pinto. The Pinto Never exploded. While on a trip, we hit a (small) pothole, and that Corvair turned Three Circles, in the middle of the road!!!
The DeHavilland Comet had one design that was questionable..the engines were built inside the wings, which the late Joe Sutter did point out, like how would the maintenance have been done if there was a problem? It would have been a huge obstacle…
My aunt drove a Corvair in the 60s and a Pinto in the 70s..never had a problem with them…
So a democrat and a hebrew fella are the ones who enacted sweeping government overreach and trillions in unnecessary spending because Ford wasn't interested in playing shady political games. Honestly they were never trying to hide it.
Back when History channel was worth watching!
My number 1 favorite TV show
❤My PINTO, Yep! Early 80😂s, I was a Proud LIME GREEN, Explicable PINTO Owner. 2 Small Bucket Seats in front ( Pull-Up Parking break lever between, small back seat bench type. Could fit 2 in front comfortably ,Beer Cooler & Fishing, Camping gear in back & Trunk . 9- 10 of your teenage friends on the Backseat when needed) My father was a Truck driver & Mechanic; we'd rebuilt Lil' Lemon with: Gabriel Jacklifter Shocks, MiniRoll Bar, Enlarged Wheel Hubs & Large- Nubbed, Steel Radial 18" 225mm Tires, added extra small RADIATOR inflow, ALWAYS would occasionally take apart & Acid Clean/ Lube/ Oil Engine, etc., in our Driveway, though Mom, surprisingly, kind of had Fits over such all Sunday Adventures. It could tackle: UP & Down MOUNTAIN Trails, Accross Small Streams, Wind in My Hair! Kept GOING,AND GOING, And going! Til finally, no matter how many Rolls of Ducktape & Layers of Floursdcent Green Spray Paint; the Body just Crumbled. Cheap Japanese Steel; they did Finally get revenge on 🇺🇲… But.. Never had Any Worries Mate!- about any KA- BOOM from a Back Fuel Tank hit. ( I THINK I did mention? Our 🍻 in the Cooler?! 😂! God Bless, had to bring back Memories of those Carefree, Filled ⛽ Up with LEADED Gas!)
The lift slab method is the stupidest fn idea I’ve ever heard of. What fn idiot thought of that?
The one in Seattle is the stupidest, most avoidable thing I've ever heard of.
The fact that no one was hurt just proves what I believe for a long time, that God has mercy on the stupid.
Marvel at me.
Hello Point Pleasant and Mothman!
I’m always fascinated how they can determine the cause of these failures.
I guess the Pontiac Fiero didn't learn from the Corvair?
Wow! This first aired 22 years ago. Something like this must not be subjective enough to made today…too many would get offended by it for some reason.
As a new driver in 1970 at 16 years old, I began driving a 1963 Corvair for two years. I never had any of the problems they describe here. Being a fool hearty teenager, I drove it like crazy, both on paved and dirt roads. As it was well used by the time I got it, I had no knowledge of the intended differing tire pressures. I ran all of them at 32 psi. I mistakenly sold upon joining the Marine Corps having been told by my recruiter that I would not be allowed to have a car on base, which of course as I found out later only applied to boot camp.
Very good video .
