The death toll in the devastating Guadalupe River flash flood in south Texas has risen to 43 — including 28 adults and 15 children in Kerr County, officials said in a grim Saturday night update.

Officials said 12 adults and five children have not yet been identified. Another press conference is expected Sunday morning.

At least four of the dead — Renee Smajstrla, 8; Sarah Marsh, 8; Janie Hunt, 9; and Lila Bonner, 9 — were attending Camp Mystic, a Christian summer retreat for girls where 23 other campers were still unaccounted for.

Family members took to social media to post the heartbreaking news.

  1. And to think that all the left did was blame Trump for the deaths. Disgusting people.

RIP to all those innocent souls lost.

  2. When I lived in Tucson, we got a LOT of rain and our washes and dry river beds were all the way up to the bridge. 2 people died when a woman fell into a creek and a guy jumped in to save her. There is no hope once you are in one of these floods.

  3. I don't understand what's shocking about this video??? It's been happening for thousands and thousands of years and only people of a few generations who have degenerated and stopped respecting the water flow are terribly surprised. If you don't know how to live and respect the water flow and you think you can fool the water, then this is what will happen.

  4. Yep this is a lot of water. Was at the Grantham inland Tsunami in 2011 in te Lockyer Valley Qld, Au. Lot of nice people died!! Sad that you folks lost so many and especially kids? Hoping time heals your suffering, dear folks an families. 😥😥

  6. In Russia you can blame evil dictator Putin, but in the great America, the ‘greatest democracy on Earth’, (*snort*) Americans are to blame, or aren't you a democracy? Don’t you elect your leaders?

The storms aren’t the core issue, the land being sealed off by greedy construction and industrial agriculture are. The river flows, if you build in its path… well…

The US life style is to blame, US admins (both parties) and corporations just provided it, US citizens lived it, still do, blaming others…

  7. Les États , Départements et municipalités laissent la nature faire les nettoyages que les services et employés des villes ne font plus parce qu’ils n’ont plus les crédits et matériels et l’essence pour les faire !

  8. just wonder. could more life be saved if life jackets were compulsorily provided for every near-river camps during flooding seasons? 😢😔🙏

  9. Interesting how this coincidentally happened on Independence Day, affecting a Christian girls' sleepaway camp in Red Texas. It reminds me of the tremendous hurricanes that devastated Florida and the Red-oriented East Coast states during last November's election.

  10. At first glance, I thought climbing up high on the big tree would have made an escape but that torrent ial flash flood was more powerful or overpowered those big trees as swept away with it. May them rest in peace and may I express my condolences to those who lost their beloved ones.
