3. The Isle of Man is an independent sort of ;mini-country' and they make their own laws, so can hold the TT with no consequences. Riders sign a "blood chit" exemption the IOM administration from liability. At the same time, they have an excellent hospital with staff good at dealing with injuries. There is nowhere like it…..
   I grew up with this race (I was born in the UK in 1942)…. the TT is an institution. The fastest I have ridden a motorcycle is about 240km/hr (that's 150 mph) and that's pretty damned quick, even on a straight road)… these guys are the finest riders in the world. The "MotoGP" chaps could not do this without a lot of practice.. and in fact the TT was withdrawn from the World Championships some years ago as the riders deemed it too dangerous…. they were right in a way… but the TT lives on, and I hope it always will. I live in New Zealand now, which is 12,000 miles from the Island, but TT week is on my bucket list still should I ever win lotto. 🙂

4. I suggest you check out Michael Dunlop, hardly anyone deserve as much respect and is loved than him. He still rides after losing his uncle, father, brother and uncle-in-law to the sport. His uncle was the great Joey Dunlop who was a member of the Armoy Armada who also included Joey's brother Jim, 'Big' Frank Kennedy and Mervin Robinson (Joey's brother-in-law). 'Big' Frank was killed at the North West 200 in 1979 and Merv Robinson was killed in the same event in 1980. Jim is the only member to survive. Joey holds the record for most TT wins at 26 and was killed a week after his 26th win in a race in Tallinn in Estonia. Joey's brother, Robert, raced and was Michael and William Dunlop's father. Robert was killed and died in Michael's arms at the North West 200 in 2008. Two days after his father's death, Michael won the race that Robert was favourite to win. Michael's brother William was killed in a race in Skerries, Ireland in 2018. Michael continues racing and this year he is going for beating his uncle TT wins record as he is currently on 25 wins. After all that heartache, he still races and is proud of the Dunlop name. What a man.

6. Other commenters have started to explain the unusual government of the island. It is not part of the UK, but is linked to it because King Charles III is Lord of Mann. The UK looks after its defence and foreign policy, but otherwise the Isle of Man is independent, with one of the oldest parliaments in the world, Tynwald. Therefore it can have its own road safety laws.
   You may have seen its flag, the Triskelion, or "Three Legs of Man"; these relates to the fact that it faces at least three countries. It has its own language, Manx Gaelic, which officially became extinct as a mother tongue in 1974, but is being revived.
   And the native breed of cat has no tails…

11. It's not quite right that there is hardly any prize money the winners get,if I remember right, about 20k in pounds no where near what a GP rider gets, but that's not the point they don't do it for money,it's as was said it's for the glory,the challenge and the experience

12. They're allowed to put the event together because the Isle of Man has its own government so it make its own rules

14. This is in my opinion the best explanation of the race to a newcomer & I’ve seen several. There are plenty from the channel Lockk9 & Peter Hickman’s chin cam full practice lap is a must see. Videos of the TT are addictive & scary to watch. Don’t forget to watch the ones featuring the two man sidecar racers, they are phenomenal. Best wishes from Britain 👍
