I have some things I need to say about Cities Skylines 2

Spread The Viralist

This is not a video bashing the devs or the publishers or the game, but some things that I think need to change to make the game better. I honestly hope this helps…

  1. I'm really glad you made this video, and in a positive way, and not just saying it sucks. I 100% agree. I feel very much the same as you do, and that's extremely disappointed. I LOVE Cities 1, I want to love Cities 2. I like it, but I don't love it. Not yet. As you said, there are just no consequences for anything, the info panels aren't there. I have homeless people living in my parks, but unless I zoomed in and clicked on them, there's no way to know they exist, and building low rent housing doesn't help them (or does it? Who knows? There's no info), and the housing just abandons. Nothing MATTERS. Why can't I specify what type of industry is built? I don't want industries that make chemicals spawning next to my forestry industry. There should be some kind of radius around these extractor buildings that guarantees related industry to be built, or just let us manually designate an area, like in Cities 1. I want to micromanage. Anyway, I hope your feedback can help CO to expand on the game and improve it.

  2. It can't be another 10 years before CS:2 feels like a worthy successor, it should be thriving with innovative gameplay where all the "ooh's and aah's, look at this!". CS:1 pulled it off because there wasn't anything else around, no competition. It's set such a baseline standard not even C.O can match it
As I suspected from the very announcement of CS:2 I wouldn't be able to play this game. I also can't, needlessly since it doesn't matter anyway, spend €5000 on new rig for a €89,99 game

Edit: stats numbers are insane. CS:2 peaked at 104,697 active players to 20,976 Nov 27th (in a month!). By Dec 25th '23 it was already intersecting CS:1 numbers
This game is dead! 😲 (but not over, if something is done)

  3. Things to say.. First up Biffa, I will start with your ending. During lockdown I was stood down from my job as many people were. I did not know if I would have enough money to eat some weeks, but what I did know is that I could always come to YT and watch Biffa play CS1 and have a laugh. An hour every day or two of that helped me through lockdown while keeping sane. I truly looked forward to the notification that a new Biffa vid was out. Thank you for that.
Expectations were high for CS2, they even priced the game at those high expectations. Then they under delivered. Talk of "you cant expect them to come up with a game that matches CS1 that has a decade of work behind it" and I say yes I can.. they did not use what what was successful about CS1, they did not use what they must have known that everyone loved about CS1. Mods/ custom assets should have been ready to on day one. full stop, not listening to arguments. Mods and custom assets are the main reason CS1 had a long life. How can CO not understand this? I just feel that management gave instructions to hype it up to increase presales even though they knew very well that the game is half baked.. and now that they have our money they can take their sweet time bring the game up to standard. I feel robbed. If this isn't a fraud then what is? CS2 is just not fun to play. I have stopped and am currently playing farm sim 22 and having a blast with all of the production chains that are in that game. I truly hope CS2 becomes the game we all want it to be, but I just can not see that happening in less than a year. There is just too many issues to work on. I tried not to be negative, but it is not easy.

  4. Unfortunately, a huge problem your finding with the game will not change because Paradox will not allow it. It is, unforunately, a Paradox game.

This is a very, very common experience with every Paradox game. The game just feels…. wrong, with massive holes all over the place and its all because of DLC. There is content deliberately held back, so they can charge you for it later. And it is fundamental stuff. They need to keep back plenty so that they can have thier catalogue of DLC reaching 5-600 quid 5 years down the line.

It doesn't feel so bad when its the FIRST game in the series. The moment you play a sequel, this is the problem. It feels so, so empty and broken. And its by design.

  5. I would love seasons to be that much more dynamic – not necessarily snow every winter etc.

I'd also love maybe scope for a higher chance of certain weather dependent on the terrain – that way we can have seasonal ski resorts

  6. Ah yes. "The players that matter". Anyone who paid for the game and invested their time on it, is entitled to give their feedback about it. Even angry one.

The devs and publishers lied. Outright lied about a lot. They knew what they had and what they were doing.

It can be pretty hard to be "invested" in a game that is not fun or interesting. A city simulator without simulation (at release). And knowing, that the DLC spam is just waiting to start…

  7. The fact that mods have to make the game better is a failure on the devs. They could've implemented those features to begin with, but nope they released an incomplete game. It wasn't ready to be released, but they released it anyways

  8. Very well said and respectful Biffa. I haven't had a chance to play Cities 2 yet since I play on Mac, but from your videos, I do agree with the issues brought up. I got into Cities 1 by watching your videos and I always loved your traffic fixes and city building! You introduced me to so many mods and techniques that have helped my gameplay and I greatly appreciate the work that you do. I really do hope they make improvements or at least hear out criticism intently.

  9. They know mugs will pay a lot for DLCs and if there are the amount of assets that are free in a game they aren't making money of you mugs, so they remove the option for free assets and slowly introduce DLC after DLC costing the consumer a shed lot of cash!!! But they thought the game would be a hit and its a massive miss so there we have it… Request a refund and continue to play CS1 A far far far superior game to its sad sad pathetic update!!!

  10. Well, I most definitely saw people having a shortage in supplies in certain industries such as ; When they started banning combustible engines the demand for cars went up and there was a supply shortage which the YouTubers needed to fix by reducing taxes for the vehicle industry to allow for more of manufacturing industry so there is some challenges that can hit your city at least that's what I saw, but you are right though.

  11. @BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines – I have missed you. I played CS2 for about 2 months, and I was always watching you (and other creators) on youtube while playing. I had to stop playing CS2 because the bugs and broken stuff just was too much….. And then I remembered that I bought CS1 in 2015, and did the same thing. I played for 3 months or so and then….. moved on. Then I came BACK in about 2018, with 4 or 5 DLC's in its belt….started playing again, and fast forward 5 years and almost 5,000 steam hours later, CS2 gets released. I left behind my massive perfect creations and city designs….. and went cold turkey into CS2 having pre-ordered it. After 2 months….I was done. Maybe even 6 weeks. And it is then that I decided that I would not come back to CS2 until at least the first DLC and modding was fully released….. and yeah, hopefully they will fix this.

I was extremely impressed with Paradox/Colossal Order and how they did CS1 and all its DLC….. but I am also extremely disappointed in what Paradox/Colossal Order has done so far. Did they stop Steam workshop with this game because of that one "malware" mod that got on? What was wrong with it otherwise? Quite frankly, it all feels like an unfinished game. They set a bold goal, but they also have deadlines for financial reasons, and they have to….. but this release (in my opinion) was nothing short of a disaster.

Now, do I believe that Paradox/CO will do us right? Absolutely. The know they messed up, and there must have been a good many meetings about it. I have every confidence though that they will make it right. Eventually…… and until then, I will miss you Biffa. I will watch you again when I pick up CS2 again. And I will pick it up again. When things get fixed….

  12. Everything you say is true Biffa. I hope the devs listen to you. I’m very hopeful colossal order will get it right eventually. For me what stopped me playing the game is
The decision to drop steam workshop for mods and assets was a massive negative and still is
Lack of assets and variety a city becomes very boring and monotonous
Lack of road tools like TMPE,Move it etc.( I agree the most popular of all time mods from steam workshop should have been integrated into the game
The seasons and weather are beautiful but not great on the eyes at times
The maps should come as two versions of each
    1 – A challenge map
2 – a free for all customisable one where resources are paintable, weather toggles for seasons and rain/snow
Tbh give us CS1 with the new road building tool and there ya go
Yep man up Colossal and admit certain decisions and mechanics are bad and tell us what’s going on, many of us are loyal supporters of CS1, but so far for me CS2 hasn’t made me it’s loyal supporter……Yet!!!!! But in time it will I’m sure

  13. The game just wasn't ready to be released (still isn't by the sounds of it), Paradox more than likely to blame for that. I'm still waiting for the console release, but any and all excitement I initially had for the game is out of the window and when (if?) it's finally released on console it will be a case of I'll get around to it when I get around to it and not rushing to get it from day one

  14. there is a fundamental scientific principle for a diamond to become a diamond you must put immense pressure on a lump of coal I think that cities 1 never let players put player city against other player city in a real free market , i would love to see a multiplayer mechanic where cities 2 players could open there cities to a real life world market of other player cities

  15. I think that becoming a mayor of a town straight up is not good in a game I think in cities 2 there should be a progression mechanic where you work from planner to the mayor of the town where you get control slowly of your city and you get at the start limited access to the whole budget like 65% of the budget every year to make you think how you spend and when you get to mayoral level you can spend all the budget anytime

  16. Fan boys wont like this video!!! I played it for 1 hour, got bored no soul no life to it! I got slammed and told I was only a hater! Here is Biffa telling the truth, albeit its been months but at least he's calling it like it is!… CSS Its a dead game now. Has been since release!..

  17. Both games needs traffic manager mod and picker picker mod to even make the city where and how you want it. It's a dropped ball on the devs. Plus the who rent high seems like it will always be broken. Sad that people paid for a game that feels like it's still alfa, not even beta.

  18. Let's be honest. It was the mod community that made the first game great to give cs1 all the things it was missing. We thought with cs2 the dev company would learn what the player base wanted out of the game and here we are again with the mod community fixing cs2 how it should have been done in the first place.

  19. great comments and concerns. The strangest decision to me was not making all tiles available. Shouldn't have to get a mod to build a city as large as I'd like. Especially since the space is already there.

  20. The biggest problem is that they probably have all this stuff ready to go….. to then dump into a bunch of expensive DLC's. And thats the worst thing about Paradox, and their idea of business.

  21. I still cannot fathom how CO and paradox didnt just look at the most subscribed section of the workshop and incorporate it as base… moveit should be a stock tool, playit/theme mixer also should be standard, I refuse to pay for DLCs to bring in assets I already paid for in the first version… TBH im waiting for all the modders to get sick of this absolute mess and go back to CS1… surely our big brain modders and asset creators can sort out CS1 with CS2 aesthetics.. also @BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines 10,000 hrs is considered "expert"..

  22. I can't wait for CS2 to be in my library when it's finished, but as it stands now I keep forgetting that it's even available to the public in this sorry state. When it does come to mind that I could buy it right now for some expectation-tempered-enjoyment, I look at the ridiculous asking price(s) and gag a little bit. Hopefully it doesn't go down as the next Rollercoaster Tycoon World!

    Thanks for speaking up!

  23. Will you do a showcase about custom maps and mods? I've seen some pretty cool stuff lately,
and maybe we can LEARN some stuff from the modding community

  24. This was very well said. I hope the CEO at Colossal Order pays particular attention to the humility aspect of this video. People worked hard to have the money to pay for this game and it was just not what was advertised. CO failed. They need to admit it, and work their ass off to deliver what the community asked or they will not see a Cities 3

  25. I agree with everything that has been said but I will also say I expected it, it was never going to compete with CS1 on launch and you could even argue that until it has as much content as CS1 then it wont ever be as good. Also making it easy for the community to rapidly fill the game with content makes it difficult for Paradox to market their future expansions. I just hope they are smart with their upcoming DLC and don't just offer rehashes of CS1 DLC's with nicer looking buildings and instead introduce improved gameplay mechanics and more in depth systems that will take it to the next level and make it unmistakably a better experience that CS1.

  26. My biggest issue is the broken simulation. The more I played the more I realized nothing I did really mattered all that much. In my first city, I went from struggling to stay positive to making millions for no apparent reason. Not sure what I did. Then I noticed import/export from cargo terminals seems to not function at all. Cargo piles up from my industries, but nothing leaves. If I have local cargo routes those move cargo for intracity transport. Just no exports. Nobody goes to high school, but I can not build enough elementary schools. Mail is totally borked. As long as there is coverage, people are happy, but it just piles up in post offices and the big sorting terminal thing never gets any mail. It just sits there costing money.

The issues just keep going and going. The detailing stuff will come, especially with mods. But if the simulation is not working, it really does not matter. Unless you are basically wanting to build digital model cities to look at. It is great for that, right now. But the simulation side of the game seems nonexistent. I really hope they can get this game sorted out. I really liked the first one. And I am willing to give it time. I just hope they can do it.
