High winds and heavy snow turned much of the Midwest into a frosty mess on Friday. Roads and sidewalks across the region became treacherous, forcing some highways to close and grounding thousands of flights.

In the city of Chicago, Illinois, there could be 3 to 6 inches of snow downtown on Friday. Throughout Friday, as the snow falls, strong winds could bring whiteout conditions.

The snow and wind also contributed to 2,230 flight cancellations and more than 7,600 delays of flights within, into or out on Friday, according to FlightAware, with Chicago’s O’Hare and Midway airports topping the list.

  1. It's not so much the amount of snow we had, but the cold and wind. The snow is frozen hard, and that makes it hard to shovel. I had to take an ice pick to smash the snowpack onto pieces small enough to shovel. The wind chill also doesn't help any while we were out there shoveling.

  2. Well imagine this type of weather all year round, it's coming by 2050 only 26 years away are you ready and do not ask the federal government for help your on your own. All those homes with floor to ceiling glass we it going to be really hard to heat that type of home, A/C heat pump will not work below 36 degrees.
