My first marriage involved mental & physical abuse. So many people told me, but children need both parents. I thought that was crazy advice. Too bad here in the U.S. there is no compensation in a divorce for abuse or cheating. In fact many states, there isn't any alimony either. I think that's why many housewives-househusbands stay in abusive marriages. Especially if they don't have family to fall back on.
