The hyena (Panthera pardus) is a predator in the Felidae family and is found in many areas throughout Africa and parts of Asia. This is an elite and powerful wild animal, known for its beauty and excellent hunting ability.
Hyenas have short, thick fur and circular patches of yellow or brown spots on a yellow base. These spots help them blend into the natural environment, creating concealment when hunting.
Hyenas are apex predators, often hunting animals such as antelopes, small wild animals, and even monkeys. They approach their prey by approaching very quietly, then lunging out to capture the prey in a brief struggle. Hyenas have the ability to stick to high trees to catch prey or pursue over short distances to catch prey.
Hyenas are usually active at night, also known as nocturnal species. They live alone and have separate territories. Hyena territories can range from a few km² to more than 100 km², depending on food sources and habitat.
Hyenas are threatened and are currently on the CITES (Contract for International Trade in Endangered Species of Fauna and Flora) list with several subspecies endangered. Habitat loss due to deforestation and illegal hunting has caused the decline of hyenas.
