Horses rescued from slurry, leads to shocking find in the barns
Spread The Viralist

When World Horse Welfare Field Officer Seema Ritson arrived on site at the request of the RSPCA, she quickly realized that there was more than met the eye.

Working with the RSPCA, she went on to discover 40 horses hidden away behind boarded up stables and mounds of slurry.

The owner was prosecuted under the Animal Welfare Act and given a lifetime ban on keeping any equine.

But the story doesn’t end there. This discovery eventually led to the rescue of 5 more horses at another nearby location that Seema had been keeping an eye on for a while.

Watch on to learn more about the efforts that led to this incredible rescue.

  1. And yet, i find the punishments for the owners laughable. Others too, apparently, as people keep doing these disgusting things. By the way, if someone does maltreat horses, he or she should not have responsibility for any living being. EVER

  2. WHY do people like this not just sell the animals when they realize they can't take care of them? If you board up the stables, you KNOW you're not gonna care for those animals no more. Just SELL them. Jeez. People are terrible. Thank goodness they were saved. <3 The owners should get more than a 10 year ban though. That's way too lenient.

  3. i've never seen a horse in a stall of filth soo high that it's entire back made contact with the ceiling; that is absolutely horrendous. Thank goodness for the WHW crew and all the people who helped rescue them from this nightmare!

  4. I wholeheartedly cant even fathom how someone can let it get this bad. If you cant take care of one horse, why get another 35? If you cant even be bothered to care for them, why would you lock them inside barns and keep feeding them instead of selling them or even giving them away? Most people would take those horses in if they had the chance. There is no justification for such vile neglect.

  5. Those are all Irish Cobs, i have been dying to get one! And I have the space and the resources to give them the lives they deserve, meanwhile whoever had them was leaving them dirty and forgotten like some kind of old toy you just don't want anymore? Deplorable, indeed. Hope they go to a better place.

  6. How on earth were these folks able to obtain and keep the animals? I'm so glad you able to rescue them and get them placed where they could be properly cared for 🐎🐎💞💞

  7. Thats so sad but is it because it rain so much for the reason of the muddy situation. I don't get how people let it get so bad. Wish I lived in the same country, love these horses.

  8. I'll NEVER understand why someone would have animals that they either can't or won't care for. If you're unable to give proper care, contact an animal welfare organization. If you're heartless and simply don't care about them, why do you even have them??? As a lifelong equestrian and lover of all animals, this just broke my heart seeing the deplorable conditions in which these horses were kept. I can't even begin to imagine how it could get THIS bad. I beat myself up if I run out of Hooflex.. Thank GOD WHW came to their rescue. Y'all are true heroes. 🐎💕

  9. One of the very very few rescues, where the owner was determined not to have horses anymore. But after 10 years his woman can do! These kind of humans should never have ANY animal! I wish all rescued horses the best life ever. They deserve it!

  10. Thank you for your keen observation on the additional horses. Now they can be happy healthy horses with a place to do their natural thing of being a horse and well taken care of.

  11. Unfortunately, THERE'S NO SHORTAGE OF ABUSE TO Horses in this World.😥.😡 Thankyou World Horse Welfare for All You Do.. Angels of Mercy.

  12. The the men that were prosecuted needed mental help how could anyone in their right mind look at what was going on and think that it was OK these two were sick in the head
