SORRENTO, AUSTRALIA – South of Melbourne where the bay opens into the sea is one of the great fishing spots in Australia, especially for local Bluefin Tuna. Today we’re going fishing, then coming back to the house to have a beach house, backyard barbecue!

Huge thank you to Richard, Chef Nick and Tess from HER Melbourne (https://her.melbourne/) for taking us on this incredible fishing trip and backyard BBQ.

From Melbourne we caught a helicopter down to Sorrento, and from there we boarded the boat and sailed into the open sea. We were lucky with perfect conditions and while the water in these parts can often be rough, today it was calm. We were lucky to be with very experienced fishers and after some searching, we finally landed a small tuna. What a thrilling experience!

We headed back to Sorrento for a barbecue, and taste of some of the freshest tuna sashimi I’ve ever had. Ironically, tuna is best when it ages a few days, so we didn’t eat the whole fish, but we did try it!

  1. As a European, I've been watching Masterchef Australia for years, and I've been watching your videos for years as well. Watching this video (and your other ones from Australia), it's fantastic to recognize end enjoy all this Aussie produce and food culture from all those MC years. Absolutely fantastic video, it makes me want to go to Australia!!! Wel done!

  2. I truly mean this in a good, constructive way. But having 27 minutes of banter before there is any real food shown and eaten is far too little focus on the food, even if the preparation and the atmosphere are important too. On a video like this, on a channel about food, I would love much more focus on the food and the eating rather than the semantics surrounding it. I could be a minority here, but I don't want to scroll and wait too much before the juice of the video is finally presented. Long time subscriber and I thoroughly enjoy your videos, but I just wanted to voice this opinion here. Thanks for all you do Mark.

  3. I’m an Aussie living in Melbourne Victoria and I loved every bit of that video as I love all your videos ,made me proud to be an Aussie and the way those fellow Aussies treated you and your family and friends was just great.🎣🇦🇺

  4. One thing for sure your no fisherman..Is it cold there wearing winter clothes. Why do you have to put such a huge mouthful in your mouth at one go your a disghusting eater…

  5. I must say this is ONE OF THE BEST videos you made. The view, the ambiance, and the FOOD are so refreshing. My Family love watching your show. Take Care and God Bless!

  6. This has to be the best video I have seen from the channel 🥰. Australians have always been so accomodating and down to Earth.

  7. Mark, at the risk of sounding like my mother. We noticed how sunburnt you got that day. Our Australian sun is lethal and has an extremely high UV rating due to the Antarctic ozone hole. Be mindful of wearing sunscreen while here. Even 10 mins can burn on a day like that.

  8. Is there anything you've eaten and didn't like? The home of Blue Fin Tuna fishing here is South Australia (SA) IMO around the Eyre Peninsula, that tuna you caught looks like a sardine compared to the ones down in SA.

  9. Second comment – I've noticed Mark has not added (or very limited) any CHILLI to his meals… so Australian food must be the best!! LOL

  10. mark should really be up at the cape york peninsula at the very tip of australia… getting in deep with the aboriginal communities eating the traditional food, turtle, jugong, bush tucker. a real aussie experience

  11. Its hard to beat a good surf and turf. With so little different ingredients its all about the quality of produce, which Australia is definitely is up there with the best in the world.

  12. This was wonderful to watch. Sorrento is a special place for my family, and we'll actually be there next week! Definitely not arriving by helicopter, but I'm tempted to take a long stroll down the front beach to see that house! One of our favourite places out there is Point Nepean, which you would have gone past in the boat. We take picnics out there all times of year as it's so much quieter and you can regularly see that pod of dolphins. Just magic.

  13. Forgot to mention, you had me at Bluefin tuna…eat it up…a deep water 🐟 fish. You got this Marko!! Melts in you mouth…ha

  14. Hi Mark, my husband and I are huge fans! We’ve been following you since 2019-2020? I believe? We can’t believe you’re in Australia! Hopefully you get to visit the sunshine state of QLD! Be so cool to see you here! Hope you’re enjoying your stay in Australia!
