Spread The Viralist

When Putin launched an invasion of Ukraine, it sent shock waves through Europe. The West expected Russia would see mass protests against the war, but these never happened. The authorities have tightened their grip on dissent.

Filmmaker Demian von Osten has lived in Russia for almost five years. He’s seen how people throughout the country have become increasingly silent about politics and the war, and how freedoms have been curtailed. Since the start of the war he has been accompanying four Russians, some of whom support Vladimir Putin and his invasion of Ukraine, and others who are critical of him. The documentary is a stark illustration of how life has changed for people in Russia and how they feel about the war.

  1. Young Daria has finally been forced to silence. That is unfortunate happenstance of this consequence. Niki Proshin got out.. I have a great feeling that this young lady wanted to do what he did. St Petersburg isn't far from where he originally hailed from. Unfortunately she has gone silent.

  2. I can guess that – Dimitri has put family first. And unfortunately the mobilization has forced him silenced. Even though he's tried to stay out of the way of politics – the threat of forced conscription has forced him to be uneasy about things and development.

  3. I don't see it that way.. I will not accept that argument of Nazis in Ukraine or elsewhere. I call it a case of deception. And great sense of sadness as well!

  4. This is a very sad situation that this is seperating families – and that is undermining even limited opposition. It's upsetting that it's fragmentation that suits Putin. I would like to undermine that. And the best way is to undermine it – is to be sympathiist of those who have suffered as consequence.

  5. I can empathize and sympathise with that ! Many people believe that it is impossible to resist Putin – but I still believe that there's more people in the land who believe that the incursion towards Ukraine was a huge mistake. The farmer is also not right but he is entitled to a degree of a view. I believe however he is a part of the fewer who will find out that he is supporting a narrower narrative.

  6. What I do not get is how is Putin still alive? Why are the billionaires allowing him to continue? They are losing money rapidly.
Protesting is not the answer to anything – it does nothing except annoy locals because the city is shut down and waste Police time.

Lobbying is a much more powerful tool for change. But in a country like Russia bullets are a more useful option.

  7. Deceived people. They don't stop talking about Nazi's in Ukraine whereas the main Nazi sits in their Kremlin. God will cross all the t's and dot all the i's. Russia will fail miserably and stumble over Ukraine. The Lord bless Ukraine and the people thereof!

  8. 9:39 So, you will attack the neighbor, because he has a cannon? Now, what would you do if the cannon was directed at the house of another neighbor?. Will that be a good idea to attack?

  9. They needed help the Russians who have been shelled , and killed for 8 years until the the so-called Eastern part, Donbass and Luhansk asked for help from Putin. Don’t forget the Minsk agreement wasn’t followed, it was just the time given to Ukraine to prepare for the more serious attacks of Eastern part of Ukraine. I know if Americans were massively killed by someone, we would too fight for their rights.

  10. I've been seeing a whole lot of Russians getting behind this invasion. A lot of American conservatives also have been against supporting Ukraine, as it is linked to the very corrupt Joe Biden administration. Peoples' total distrust of Biden naturally makes them distrustful of US support for Ukraine. I support Ukraine for humanitarian reasons and to stand for nations who wish to be independent. You cannot take over countries in 2023. We are stuck with the borders we have and everyone better make the best of it and get used to it. Russia has never had any need to fear being attacked by the West. It is not what we do. It is what nations like Russia does. And obviously just did.

  11. If you wanted to find people afraid to speak out politically and silenced by fear and governmental abuse of power, you could have just stayed in Germany and interviewed people opposed to massive immigration or NATO expansion.

  12. Every time I I see a media segment explaining the Russian perspective, the more I believe that Russians are useless. No wonder Putin sends them to the front lines to become hamburger.

  13. Would be interested to hear where the farmer thinks this cannon which has been pointed at Russia is and who is manning it. If, as he proclaimes, he is monitoring foreign media and analyizing it, how does he arrive at his mindset. There's a man who needs to travel and meet foreigners in their own homes not what is fed him on Russian TV.

  14. Allergic to history = russian.

And please…………stop saying "but there are also good russians". The number of good russians is miserable. They never respected neither their neighbor's history nor foreign help.
Typical Russian:"Americans? British? European soldiers? We don't know. We took Berlin ourselves! With no guns! We just looked at nazis with furious eyes and they fled! No one helped us"

  15. Stop paying their salaries, otherwise they will keep on living acting criminally.
Even if they do not care about politics.
It's time to care, instead ….

  16. Shame on the EU and in NATO for provoking this senseless war. Why does NATO even exist anymore? There is no Communist USSR anymore—Neo-Marxism is to be found in China and, most worrisomely, within the Western elites.
