My friend works on a cruise ship and she said that they have a massive, hidden store of weapons on the ship and they are trained to use them if pirates start to get the upper hand. But pirate attacks on cruise ships are exceedingly rare. The ship is too large to board for an actual takeover.

Not trying to be too superstitious but it was documented that the christening of the Costa Concordia was plagued with failure. The champagne bottle refused to break and you can hear the gasps in the crowd.
Another disaster, total ship loss, the HAL MS Prinsendam (1980 fire and sinking off Valdez)
I speak Italian, but I think I learned some new words from the Italian Coast Guard.
You forgot to mention capsizing. Technically the SS Eastland was a cruise ship… That was worse than the Titanic, and partly caused by the lifeboat regulations put in place after The Titanic.

The Italian Coastguard is awesome. The Costa Concordia Captain is the biggest coward I’ve ever heard of
