  1. Again I say
No one does Caribbean or African accents well
They butcher them and the native speaker is not allowed to sound authentic
Too much butchering of the Caribbean or African accent

  2. Y'know, I was gonna say something about how you can't generalise all English accents down to one, but then I heard the actor and I agree that he doesn't match ANY part of Britain, let alone a part of England.

  3. If I were directing a film that had characters with notable accents, I would be happy to have Erik Singer consulting for us as he sure knows his stuff. This was a very well-done video.

I disagreed with him only once regarding the Bridget Jones performance. I thought he focused too much on the whole lateral plosion thing…its really not very hard to do at all. She had that okay, but fell flat in many other sounds that revealed she wasn't English , particularly in the voice-over spots. Its almost as if she needed to be on set, with onlookers and cameras rolling, to get it right. In general, it was just far too posh and not believable (in my slightly hard-to-impress opinion, having worked in the UK for years). Being American, I was still able to enjoy the film, but most of the English people I knew found her performance cringe-inducing at times. Although hey, after Costner's Robin Hood, she comes out as Oscar material.

And, given her actual origins (Texas) and normal speaking voice, I think that overall her performance was commendable….even though she was clearly overcoached.
