Adult locust swarms can travel up to 150 km per day with the wind. Females can lay up to 300 eggs during their entire life, while adult insects can consume an amount of food per day equal to their own weight – about two grams daily. A very small flock consumes the same amount of food per day as approximately 35,000 people, so the devastating impact that locusts have on crops jeopardizes food security, especially in vulnerable areas.
