The hypothesis that there are ethereal life forms that can manifest through various mediums earning them the somewhat modern title of elementals but in the past would be the cause for stories of fae, lesser kami, evil spirits, djinn, demons, the little folk, elves (dark elves match up with shadow people), all manner of nature spirits including some said to be drawn to abandoned places to take up residence. There are even some said to imitate the dead to mess with or scare off humans.

23. Three of my four childhood houses were haunted. The first two had what I called “normal actions”, such as strange noises at night, bodiless shadows, and just the feeling that someone was always watching you.
    
    The third one, however, the spirits were far more active. There was one ghost that would hide items from me, usually something I was using at that moment, and return it as soon as I gave up looking. There was one that would randomly turn on the water or open drawers in the kitchen. The lights would suddenly turn off while in use. On certain nights of the month, I would hear loud steps walking up and down the hall before knocking on all the doors. I had a music box in my room that would start playing in the middle of the night without anyone turning its key. There was a doll I had that mysteriously loss its hair, as if someone was pulling it out. I was able to catch sight of these ghosts several times, usually spotting a figure in the mirror only for it to disappear when I turned around or seeing a shadow pass my doorway during the night. But we also had a vicious spirit that would cause us harm. This one would pull on my hair or tug on my clothes. It would shove me while I was walking. I would wake up with unknown bruises on my arms and legs. The worst experience was one time while I sleeping and suddenly felt as if someone was pressing my head into my pillow. It only stopped when I let out a scream and my parents came into the room. We moved out after 5 years in that house.

28. I don't believe in ghosts but many years ago me and a friend were studying late night in our college study room. We saw a figure walking by peculiarly but didn't make much of it as we had finals, the last day we both looked up and saw him. We didn't discuss it until a few days later when we described him to our senior who told us about the young architect who died by slipping off the beam and being impaled on construction rods on that same spot.

I also enjoy the idea that with the multiple worlds or dimensions idea, Ghosts, sounds and other potential paranormal activity occurs when there are 'near syncs' or close overlaps of realities, that have variations going on in their timeline within the same space. A ghost walking through a wall may occur because the building you're in in another reality was made 5 or 10 ft. over, so the room is located beyond the wall in that reality they exist in.

35. I work in an old building, around 100 years old. Throughout the years four different paranormal investigator groups have found evidence of paranormal activity here. What I found interesting is that while they were not in communication with each other's groups, some of their findings were the same, such as a young boy on the first floor and a very young girl in the basement. I've listened to tapes that were recorded in front of me and played back an hour later. One investigator asked, "Can you come over?" There was a hissing voice that was not what I heard in front of me, but on the tape it was distinct: "No, I'm dead." I'm pretty certain there are spirits floating around the world. Our spirits here in our store are benign, maybe even protecting us.

43. About 15 years ago, I moved into a townhouse with a friend. We would hear crazy loud sounds coming from upstairs, but when we would investigate, nothing was out of place or moved. Neither of us spoke about it to anyone else. Then we see a priest coming out of our next door neighbor's. I asked her about it, and she said the exact same things we had experienced. She had the priest try to clear her place. My roommate agreed to watch my sons while I went on a date (she had hearing aids due to hearing loss as a small child because of a childhood illness, so no noise EVER woke her). When I got home, I found her awake, she said due to waking up around midnight to find a little girl staring at her from the foot of the bed. My baby was lying beside her, so she ran downstairs to see if it was my 7 yr old. He was sound asleep in bed. We also had a friend in the complex who had reoccurring dreams about it being an old Native American burial ground… was happy to move out!!!
