Natural disasters are we really so helpless?

Spread The Viralist

Web journalist Lori Harfenist of the online talk show The Resident now asks people in New York what humanity can do in the face of a catastrophe like Haitian earthquake.

Most New Yorkers believe that since scientists cannot give accurate prognoses for natural disasters, people should give more funding to rescue operations and be more involved in the aid process.

  1. BULL!! HAITI earthquake provoke? Please give me a break and get me SOME scientific FACTS!! This is ridiculous!!! I can't stop laughing!! Anyone with facts please? You US-hater never seem to stop with your absolute ridiculous propaganda!! The planet has been under earthquakes forever… I was born in SanDiego and while my mom was in labour we had a tremendous earthquake and peopel went about their lives as if nothing happened, it's a daily shake like rain and storms

  2. As for the HAARP comment. All I can say it is the summit of Human Hubris to think we can control nature when our most powerfull weapons generate but a puny portion of the energy released in even the smallest of Earthquakes.

  3. My intentions are to state my opinion. I do not hear common sense in her statement that equates the planning for an "international" event like the Olympics to the international response to the the Tsunami or the Haiti quake. The former is an known event that lends itself to planning. A natural disaster by its nature is random. You cant plan for what you dont know.

  4. Around 10,000 American soldiers are due to arrive in Haiti to restore order to the streets as desperate earthquake survivors resort
to looting and violence while aid struggles to reach them.

They used harrp to give them an excuse to occupy another country

  5. The U.S. needs to start construction of a FEMA fleet.
a fleet of ships with desalination equipment electrical generators waterpumps & telcom equipment & hospital ships, NOT prison ships!

  6. The reporter makes the unbelievable silly claim that if we can prepare for things like the Olympics why cant we handle earthquakes, etc.! If this is the level of the grip we have on reality nowaday we are in some really deep excrement. And no there is NO reset button in real life.

  7. The earth quake was an act of god. A lot of us just like haitians are surviving from pay check to pay check. But the gov in haita treats its people like shit . What kind of gov picks up your relatives with a front loader and dumps them in a dump truck and send them to a garbage dump. Most of the people that died where the rich haitians so the poor haitians have the opportunity to rebuild haita into a rich gambling paradice like bahamas. All I can say is Haitians kick some rich people ass.

  8. The guy at 2.41 is dead on.If people are going to donate then give food etc.Never donate money because all the fat cats will just take it.This was probably caused by HAARP anyway.

  9. ForTehNguyen, Hey fellow prepper. One difference between us and the sheeple is that in the event of a disaster, we get off our asters and get to work while they sit there with there hands out waiting because they are too helpless to do for themselves. In a disaster NYC would do no better than Haiti.

  10. if the govt didnt tax the crap out of its citizens maybe id have more money to donate, but when the US govt spent billions in foreign aid over the last 2 decades with no effect (Haiti actually got poorer because of foreign aid), it makes me not want to donate.

  11. these sheeple in NYC wont know shit about preparing for SHTF, why even bother asking them. I've already started preparing for the most realistic disaster coming…an economic/currency crisis

  12. Wow, this first lady gives the grossest American stereotype. This is the ugly American in Times Square 0:55

We are talking about the poorest nation, not only in the Western Hemisphere, but in the world. Look at the clothes this lady is wearing, but they were made in a sweat shop in Haiti

If Americans would stop being addicted to cheap goods made by sweat shop labor then maybe people could be better paid so their countries could build physical infrastructure in order to be "better prepared"
