  1. I just realized, Ken is the missing link between all the ignorant, store-bought-Casey Whatshisface- DJI guys and the super-law obiding hobbyist and basically everything in between. (I hope that comes over somewhat as the compliment I was thinking of… ;D)
all the best from Berlin, Germany! <3

  2. Great video Ken. Yeah…Cities are nice places to aerial-video shoot the nice architecture of buildings which you are great at. You always have great sound quality with the lapel mic commentary. Makes for a great viewing experience. Nice to see your relationship with Henry. Dogs are such faithful trusting companions. Have a great weekend.

  3. ARE YOU NEW TO FPV?  DID YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE GUY IN THE CHAIR AT @2:35 WAS TALKING ABOUT? Well that guy is me lol, so I can explain myself. Here's a glossary for the jargon I was tossing around:

BetaFPV = A manufacturer of small FPV quadcopters (quads) and parts. They made the frame (the main structure of the quad), motors, flight controller, ESC's, and batteries I used on this quad.

85mm = This is the frame size of the quad I'm showing, measured diagonally, from the centers of two motors. Most small quads are measured this way. A Mavic Pro is 335mm. A Phantom 4 is 350mm.

Beta85x 4K = This is a model of a small 85mm BetaFPV brand quad, that has 4K video recording. This model is what the frame I'm using here is from/for. Kind of like using a Volkswagen Beetle frame to make a Dune Buggy, you can make your own quads using parts made for a different model, as I've done here.

Carbon stiffened = The plastic frame of the quad has a carbon fiber "X Shaped Brace" to stiffen it. Due to it's heavy weight for it's size, and high power brushless motors, the plastic frame would bend and twist it without this stiff, light weight brace. Most larger "open prop" frames are entirely carbon fiber, like the others you see in this video. But most small "ducted prop" frames like this one, are plastic. So this is a hybrid.

2" = Propeller size. Most larger quadcopters are measured this way. The big quad at the beginning was a 10"! The freestyle "mini quads" you typically see elsewhere in this video etc (like at the end) are 5". A Mavic Pro is 8.3" A Phantom 4 is 9.5".

Avan props = Avan is a manufacturer of quad propellers, known for small props with very aggressive high thrust / high pitch multi blade designs. These are 2", 4 blade props I'm showing. I need aggressive props because this quad is very heavy for it's size (170g w/ battery!)

Caddx Vista = This is a very new, rare / backordered product. Caddx is a manufacturer of FPV cameras etc. The Vista, is a miniature (20mm x 20mm square mounting), digital, HD, FPV (first person view) VTX (video transmitter) and HD camera system. It's compatible with the new DJI Digital FPV System, but is much smaller and lighter than the "Air Unit" VTX that you typically get with that system.

Most FPV quadcopters use SD, analog FPV cameras, with lots of static and breakup etc. But DJI Digital FPV looks very clear and HD. Which is why the flight video Ken shows of him flying this looks so good – that's what he's seeing in the goggles as he flies! This is a very small quad to have Digital HD video in it, which is why it's so special! 3 months ago, this wouldn't be possible!

No onboard recording = the normal DJI Air Unit has a MicroSD card slot, so it can record 1080p video on board. The Caddx Vista however does not, so we're recording on the DVR on the goggles at 720p, which is subject to compression and signal degradation a bit, but still looks great!

Single U.FL Antenna = The .normal DJI Air Unit has twin antennas with larger MMCX connectors. To save size / weight, the Caddx Vista uses a single antenna with a small U.FL connector.

RushFPV = They make FPV video equipment, and they brand/make the antenna on the Caddx Vista.

TrueRC = They make some of the very best FPV antennas, and designed the antenna for the Caddx Vista.

Lumenier = The store brand of GetFPV.com – they manufacture the antenna for Rush FPV.

I think that's all the jargon lol. LMK if you have other questions! 🙂

  4. Heya Ken, this is my YouTube account (I'm Jim aka Protonus) 🙂 It was great to meet you! (I'm the guy with the Caddx Vista 85mm 2" and the big yellow slingshot 🙂

  5. That pole retrieval thingy is neat but too much personally. I just use a cheap wrist rocket, fishing line & fishing weight. Once the line is over, just tie some paracord to the end, pull it back over the tree and yank away. Kit easily fits in my backpack.

  6. As a member of the older generation I don't know that I could ever pilot FPV at the levels seen in this video. Looks like you have to lightning reflex and hand/eye coordination to fly like that. I guess its not as much an issue when you have the controls but just watching this is very disorienting. Well, the ground launched camera was very cool and it did bring the treed drone in the end. Well done ?

  7. So Mr Steele changed the Stash, got rid of the curly stuff. I could never in a million try that. I'd fall in the ground and couldn't get up. Those shotpoles, we use them in Ham Radio all the time. They can tackle any tree easily with rope to pull up a wire antenna. They work perfectly and get it done. Lots of guys have there oww homebrewed ones. I'd never take a chance, always let a buddy get it up there. Just tell them where you want it and a minute later you're in business. Very cool to see that used for another tast.

  8. Hay Ken Great video and Great flight, I need one of those sling shots, when I go flying I take 8 quads, ranging from 2in up to 5in and a Glider with a wing. And when I get low on batteries I charge them up with the battery from my wheelchair. Thanks again for the show, I have been watching for a year now and I can't wait for the next episode. Thanks again for everything

  9. You can send your camera 150ft into the air and it doesn't brake, I put mine in my bag and pull it out with a cracked front screen and it was a osmo action.

  10. That osmo action is one tough camera, especially with it's big lens! Looks like the trip was worth the coronavirus…..I mean cold you brought back with you.

  11. Another awesome video. Really fun watching your camera flying through the Air with the greatest of ease. These are the people that make the drone community so great. Thanks for sharing.
