Rescuing Animals From Natural Disasters

Rescuing Animals From Natural Disasters
Spread The Viralist

Wayne Pacelle, chief executive officer and president of The Humane Society of the United States, book signing for his book,”The Bond”. At this point Wayne was speaking about how Hurricane Katrina was a wake-up call to the American people that legislation needed to be passed that would include provisions for animal rescue in cases of disasters.

Unfortunately, there are still many politicians who are against governmental help when it comes to rescuing animals. In Arizona, Senate candidate Jeff Flake, Republican is anti help when it comes to animals. Flake’s votes on animal welfare issues:
“Voted against the Pets Evacuation and Transportation Standards (PETS) Act, to include pets and service animals in disaster plans, after first responders risked their lives to save pets left behind during Hurricane Katrina (H.R. 3858/P.L. 109-308)”

  1. Your video description was the first time I ever heard about Jeff Flake. Now he is a national hero for standing up to Donald J. Dumpsterfire.

  2. What a cold hearted bustard could leave an animal behind in a disaster area? Selfish pricks. Animals should be number 1 priority cause there is NO way they can help themself being stucked in a cage/ house/ chain and so on. Urodi

  3. Thank you so much for your wonderful comment! I am so glad you are prepared and you have your dog ready to go too. I hope you will never need those bags. 😉

  4. The legislation that was passed to include animals in evacuations was one of the most important in human history, because a lot of other countries followed America's example. I'm in the UK and they now include pets/animals in their disaster evacuation plans, I know cause I've checked. Yep I also have an emergency bag ready to go for my self and also one bigger (:)) for my dog.

  5. The animals should be rescued with their people and not left behind. Hopefully they are being rescued in the areas hit by Hurricane Sandy. Kisses and Hugs.

  6. Oh, no! I didn't know there were wild horses in danger. And think of all the other wild animals too. I think over 60 people have died and I heard they were looking for two little kids that were swept away. 🙁

  7. "During a 2011 GOP primary debate he said it was "immoral" for the federal government to be spending money on disaster relief when it should be focused on deficit reduction" Yet he doesn't want to take away the tax breaks for the wealthy. How could anybody vote for him??? And yes, now he's trying to make it look like he cares but clearly he doesn't. He is a lying flip flopper.

  8. Great Vid Ms. M …made me cry. And i am afraid to find out about the wild horses on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and Chincoteaque Island, Virginia. I hope they made it. I just don't want to hear the worst about the Sandy aftermath. This all breaks my heart.

  9. I just accidentally deleted your reply! I didn't mean to! You can reply again if you want! The thought of Chuck Norris saving the animals is great but the idea of him breastfeeding them is kinda gross! Funny reply. LOL But yes, I hate to think of the animals being abandoned and left to try to survive on their own. 🙁

  10. I am thankful for people like this in the world. Gives me hope…“We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals.”

Most people have forgotten how to live with living creatures, with living systems and that, in turn, is the reason why man, whenever he comes into contact with nature, threatens to kill the natural system in which and from which he lives. – Konrad Lorenz

  11. Very heartwarming video and so sad at the same time. It brought tears to my eyes. Romney has been questioned about doing away with FEMA during crisis for people. Our beloved pets would not stand a chance under that, much less ppl. He was just questioned by a minimum of 11 reporters if he still stands on doing this as a Pres. He would not answer. This is during Hurricane Sandy. He kept bagging groceries, when Red Cross said that it was money they needed to get the correct supplys to ppl fast.

  12. Thank you! Wayne Pacelle is an amazing person. The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is rated very high, higher than the American Red Cross when it comes to charities in the US. There is no way I could leave my animals behind either….it wouldn't even be an option.

  13. With the Republicans, it's all about money and corporations. I wonder what they are doing for the animals in New Jersey and New York in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy? I hope those states have caring politicians. And wildfires, yes, I have heard them say on the news that most of the animals escape without injury but I know people who have mountain biked through the 'burnage' and seen lots of dead animals.

  14. GREAT video… sad to watch & hear wot those animals went thru!!! They can't look after themselves, i would NEVER leave my dog & just go! My dog is my best mate & friends help each other, Not just give up on her for my own reason, she needs me to help look after her & every animal owner should b responsible to look after there animals!!! Leaving them like that is NOT being responsible, or being it's friend!
But yes, it would help if the Government also cared!
