Squirrel trapped in 'squirrel-proof' bird feeder! - Animal rescue
Spread The Viralist

So-called ‘squirrel-proof’ bird feeders are often anything but and we are often called out to help rescue stuck squirrels from this unlucky predicament!

Luckily for this one, it was not held tightly and, after being cut free by Simon, it could be safely returned to the wild 🙂

We rescue and rehabilitate grey squirrels under licence.

  1. It should have been dispatched. It's illegal to release gray squirrels back into the wild even if accidentally caught. . They're registered as vermin , causing large amounts of damage to woodlands, including taking the eggs and chicks of song birds .In 50 years they've single handedly wiped out the native red squirrel from England and Wales. I suggest all you " wild life lovers " visit the Webb Site FRIENDS OF THE RED SQUIRREL, and learn more about this aggressive invasive species .

  2. My friend would always say how stupid squirrels are.
Well, apparently squirrels are so smart that this one can (almost) get past a squirrel proof bird feeder!

  3. Do you know these wooden boxes with a plastic front they sell as squirrel feed boxes? We got one, filled it with good intentions and nuts – and next day we found a young squirrel that had died in it, it obviously wasn't strong enough to open the lid from inside and maybe got a heart attack trying to get out in panic or idk…it was horrible. Now we got an open woodhousethingy where they can get in out as they want to, we love our squirrels!

  4. When I was a child, my father actually came up with an ingenious solution: Take a large plastic bowl or glass lamp shade and hang it in a dome over top of and covering the top of the feeder. It was a safe and fairly effective way to keep them out, and made for some pretty funny entertainment watching them try. 😀

  5. I remember my grandmother (back when she didn't live with us) had a separate tray with various nuts in it for the squirrels and chipmunks that would come along. The squirrels wanted the bird seed sometimes, but they weren't a huge problem.

  6. Great job helping this squirrel I like it when I see you guys helping British wildlife thanks for sharing this to the public

  7. Simon made short work of that, much to the little sweetie's relief. Cute fluffy little one he was. Lovely! Merry Christmas to all at WAF! ?✨ ❤️

  8. Would have been hilarious if the squirrel was hanging around to try & get at the bird feed again. Then get stuck again and Simon gets called again a half-hour later.
    ?✌️?
