I was super lucky to be able to spend Chinese New Year in Southern China, a 2 hour drive from Guangzhou, in a little village full of locals, eating an amazing feast of Chinese Food! The flavours were elegant and simple yet bold at the same time. Very refined!
I was invited to this village by a friend who was traveling back to her hometown for the Chinese New Year family reunion. When I arrived to the village, I was blown away at how traditional everything was and how the locals were so happy and kind hearted. I got to meet and chat with everyone in her family, and was shown around their home and told to make myself at home. This was a nice experience after spending time in Guangzhou eating Chinese Street Food.
I watched them cooking as they showed me how to make sweet and sour spare ribss and how to make chinese foods from southern china (Cantonese style cooking). They had an indoor kitchen and also were cooking outdoor using a massive wok! Watching them cooking and learning how to cook the way they do was an amazing experience.
The family took me in as their own, and even gave me a classic Chinese hongbao stuffed with cash!!! This was truly a experience that I will never forget! I feel so thankful!
My favourite thing was the sweet and sour spare ribs, and the boiled chicken dipped in the homemade sour and spicy chili sauce! It was legendary!

You are so lucky to be able to do this…
I am learning Mandarin in my free time and watching your videos is an enjoyable way of practicing the language by listening, copying the speech of you and the locals, and reading along with the subtitles. A language lesson with the bonus of learning about food and culture too! I recommend your series for people learning conversational Mandarin who want to learn about food vocabulary, the best topic!

This video is one of my favorites of yours despite being so short aha. You are just so respectful and in awe and they didn't treat you like an outsider at all. I've never considered visiting China at all but your videos make it seem so worthwhile. Appreciate what you do dude
Hello Trevor and Ting,
When you get married, you MUST have a traditional Chinese feast with wicked multiple courses. Get someone to video that. I had the pleasure some years ago, and it was a meal that you remember for a lifetime. Thanks again.
was that goo doo, or doo doo?
You rated the food and it was free!
One of my favorite scenes
The dog joke was funny! 🙂
Mr. Food Ranger, I like your videos, can you do one in Mongolia??please, thanks.
I hope she didnt mean that she raised the dogs for meat! But the food looks phenomenal!
I absolutely love torturing my Chinese students in class with your videos. Particularly in the morning or evening when they are most hungry. They especially like your reactions to the food. Keep 'em coming. Could you do some Chinese dessert videos? I'm down in Wenzhou…you should make a video here.
I'm way too American. I need my own food on my own plate that wasn't touched by used chopsticks. haha
Bcz we need respect in return.
