In China if you hit a pedestrian you have to pay all of their medical expenses for the rest of your lives. They could have cancer or AIDS, things not accident related, and you will have to pay for it. This is why there are lots of videos of people jumping in front of cars in China. There are also incidents of people hitting pedestrians, then backing over them to finish them off. If you kill them you only have to pay for their funeral.
