This puppy got the attention it needed at the right moment as the WA2S Films team was riding by while working on an ongoing K9 survey of the city of Detroit. That’s when the Detroit Dog Saviors went to work!

As a member of the Detroit Dog Saviors’ all volunteer animal rescue coalition, DAWG – Detroit Animal Welfare Group responded to a call from the World Animal Awareness Society’s Tom McPhee that a puppy was spotted in Detroit while conducting an American Strays K9 survey.

Ronnie and Shannon were the first on the scene – and immediately split up to address 2 stray dog situations unfolding. See this video to see what happened to the black dog Moe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcEAiAwwax0

Shannon Harder of DAWG was joined by Deanna Vollano of the World Animal Awareness Society as Shannon tried to secure the dog they discovered was named Rio.

  1. I think people are being a little too hard on the owner. Yes, letting an ex-street dog out without a leash or at least a collar is a bad idea, but thats more ignorance than any sort of cruelty. He's only had the dog a week, so he hasn't really had a lot of time to get the dog groomed and treated. I think it's possible that if people tried to show him a better way, rather than attacking him (Or any dog owner in a situation like this) he might be able to make a good home for this lil guy!

  2. Anything that happens to that dog is the owners fault .
He's dirty, hungry, full of fleas , and he lets it run around the neighbourhood soon or later he's gonna get hit by a car .

  3. No fucking way would I have left that poor dog with that owner who just found him! ahhhhhh I know you guys can only do so much, but I would have least thought you would have took the dog to get checks, then returned him if need be. The owner was not interested at all. I had a bad vibe about him

  4. Poor thing looked like fleas have him uncomfortable and he is dirty too etc., why didn't they take him clean him up, do the necessary like micro chip etc then give it back to the owner, the looks like he loves the dog but don't have the necessary finance to properly take care of little sweetheart.

  5. And the guy doesn't give the dog a flea bath? You can buy flea shampoo at the solar store….or Dawn dish soap kills fleas too. The dog is obviously not eating well either. It's only a matter of time before the dog ends up back on the street. Sad

  6. Wtf?
That sweet dog was neglected,he runs off said the "owner" ok how frikin long was he gone, the dogs fur was terribly matted.
Here in Southern California our animal shelter employees would have asked to see if the dog was licensed,if not they would have taken it.
This simply disgusts me,not the people who tried to save him but the looser who was obviously lying.

  7. the poodle, isl like, I'm just gonna act casual , as I keep going, maybe a couple of pee stops for good measure. . and maybe, the guy in the car, whom I glance at occasionally, will just go away… lol… he's a very street smart dog…

  8. japp it so sadly to see all homeless dogs, dumped, injured, lonley, homeless, dead, starving etc
God Bless all who care about the dogs, save them

  9. I wish every human educated must learn how to treat and respect dogs.. just not hit them or dump them when not needed. Those humans are worse, terrible and disgusting person. So what's the use of their education when one does not knows how to be kind to animals..those person one day will not be either kind to his own family too.

  10. I understand people have places to go but dang would it have hurt that driver to stop for a minute and let the dog get out of the road????These people honk but don't slow down. Are they really in that much of a hurry that it justifies possibly hitting or injuring that dog????

  11. Looking for food, poor baby , you need a NET and some meat, hamburguer to rescue him.
This dog needs a bath, need a vet, needs to stay home VERY BAD OWNER.

  12. That was kind of a happy ending. I wonder if that man understands that fleas will lay eggs in his carpet and he will have an infestation in the house. He really ought to get the poodle neutered. It won't run around as much.
