A beautiful volcanic lake in Cameroon became the site of one of the strangest natural disasters ever recorded.
In 1986, Lake Nyos suddenly released a massive amount of carbon dioxide that had accumulated deep beneath the water. The invisible gas flowed downhill, displaced breathable air, and killed approximately 1,700 people and thousands of animals.
The terrifying part?
The killer was invisible.
