  1. Hey Shane, one question: What do you think would be the best way to learn clinch striking? I'm a boxer and a wrestler and I also like to engage in the clinch when I box but I'd like to learn the Muay Thai clinch without having to learn the entirety of Muay Thai, like low kicks, teeps, etc. I'm really only interested in the clinch. Is there an alternative to just doing traditional Muay Thai and hoping the coach will eventually start a clinch class?

Or is this something that can be trained on your own with a right partner, if you already have proper understanding of the clinch?

  2. Appreciate the tips. I imagine single leg, double leg, inside trip and outside trip takedowns would be great counters but this is very informative and underrated. Also helps to build confidence fighting at an extremely close range.

  3. Problem with thai clinch is it doesnt work that well if a man is significantly stronger and taller than you. Drilling in clinch class I had a tall guy in a plum and had both hands behind his neck and still couldn’t pull it down 😂

  4. The danger of facing a grappler is hitting the clinch in the first place. That's an awfully vertical position and they're trained to avoid head control.

  5. I feel like Dustin Poirier did a goodish job of using his hips defensively in the clinch against Islam and Olivera. Getting under them and all.
