Typhoon Bavi reached China’s eastern coast on July 11 after hitting Taiwan and Japan’s southern islands.
Around 1.72 million people were evacuated from Zhejiang province as a precaution while the storm also forced thousands to flee their homes in Taiwan. In Japan, power outages hit thousands of households and facilities in Okinawa as flights affecting some 26,000 passengers were cancelled by airlines.
