June 16, 2013. A date that changed Kedarnath forever — and left the entire world without an answer.

Thousands of devotees had gathered at Kedarnath for darshan that day. It had been raining heavily for three days straight. But nobody knew that the Chorabari Lake, sitting directly above the temple, had filled dangerously beyond its limit. When the dam broke — it broke with a thunderous explosion. Billions of litres of water, massive boulders, and debris came rushing straight toward the temple at full force.

Within minutes, every shop, hotel, and building surrounding the temple was swept away like paper. The Kedarnath flood of 2013 became one of the deadliest natural disasters in Indian history — over 5700 people lost their lives that night. And then something happened that nobody can explain.

A massive boulder came rolling down from the mountain above — and stopped right behind the Kedarnath temple. That single rock absorbed the full force of the water and debris. The floodwaters split around the temple and flowed on either side, leaving the shrine completely untouched.

The next morning, when rescue teams arrived, destruction lay in every direction as far as the eye could see. But the 1200-year-old Kedarnath temple stood completely unharmed — not a single scratch.
That boulder is now known as “Bhim Shila.” Scientists called it a geological coincidence. But for millions of devotees, it was and always will be the miracle of Mahadev.

16 जून 2013 — ये वो तारीख है जो केदारनाथ की हर एक पत्थर में दर्ज हो गई है। और ये वो तारीख है जब कुछ ऐसा हुआ जिसे आज भी न साइंस समझा पाई, न इंसान।
उस दिन हज़ारों श्रद्धालु बाबा केदार के दर्शन के लिए वहाँ मौजूद थे। तीन दिनों से लगातार बारिश हो रही थी। लेकिन किसी को नहीं पता था कि केदारनाथ के ठीक ऊपर बसी चोराबाड़ी झील खतरे के निशान से कहीं ऊपर भर चुकी है। और जब वो डैम टूटा — तो एक तेज़ धमाके के साथ करोड़ों लीटर पानी, विशाल चट्टानें और मलबा सीधा मंदिर की तरफ बढ़ने लगा।

चंद मिनटों में चारों तरफ की दुकानें, होटल, घर — सब कुछ तिनकों की तरह बह गया। 5700 से ज़्यादा लोग उस रात अपनी जान गँवा बैठे।
लेकिन तभी ऊपर पहाड़ से एक विशालकाय चट्टान लुढ़कते हुए आई — और ठीक मंदिर के पीछे आकर रुक गई। उसी एक चट्टान ने पानी और मलबे की पूरी टक्कर अपने ऊपर ले ली। पानी मंदिर की दिशा से मुड़कर बगल से बह गया।
अगली सुबह जब लोगों ने देखा — चारों तरफ सिर्फ तबाही थी। लेकिन 1200 साल पुराना केदारनाथ मंदिर बिना एक खरोंच के वैसे का वैसा खड़ा था।
आज उस चट्टान को “भीम शिला” कहा जाता है। और जो लोग उस रात वहाँ थे, वो कहते हैं — ये महादेव का चमत्कार नहीं तो और क्या था।
