The character development system in Rome: Total War was one of the most entertaining things in the game, allowing you to make mad drunken religious fanatics or serious educated politicians out of your generals if you wanted to. One of my favorite ways to get traits for generals is from them witnessing natural disasters, a rare but entertaining event that can cause a general to become either more or less religiously fanatical.

Have you ever had one of your generals get one of these traits from being near a natural disaster?
"Huh, that volcano almost killed me. That can only mean that I am a god! Quickly, dismiss all but one of my bodyguards!"
I don't understand pious make reduced morale. Irl people can be extremely brave because they pious
Does It happend with flash floods too? Because I got once a charachter with that trait but no volano nearby (but a flash floods)
Thanks for the short.
If a region has had a natural disaster you cannot build watchtowers or forts within that territory, and the movement range for all troops and agents is vastly reduced.
What's the music at the end of the video? I believe I've heard it somewhere
Its a shame there aren't really positive traits from it like 'I survived' or 'I supset the gods so i'll do better!'
The level of detail in the old games was insane
-2 personal security. "Strike me mortal, and I will become more powerful than you can imagine."
I have played this game for literally thousands of hours and I am STILL learning new things
Damn I miss this game. I really miss seeing roads become highways and tons a trade routes everywhere.
Can you do a short on how to reduce culture penalty in settlements?
Does this stats affect anything? Never noticed difference
I had a guy get One of the Gods, Of the Eagles, and The Mighty, guy conquered everything before him above the mountains, before walking alone back across the alps harried by rebels with two units of Legionaries at ten percent strength to take command of my southern army and fight back an invasion that would have taken Rome, two turns later he died in the city.
Rome total war was such a great game
Oh now the general has accidentally charged the whole enemy team alone,
Anyways
Natural disasters? WTF? Maybe I've just forgotten but never seen any of that and put probably a thousand hours into the game. Though, never played more than 100 turns into a campaign before restarting
The amount of random, inane, but kinda neat stuff they added in this game is amazing. I played it when it came out and have learned so much over the years about the features they added!
Yeah this really is the greatest game of all time.
Who even thinks of stuff like that 21 years ago??
Maybe stupid question but is this system also in Rome remastered?
A general with a full-head injury
I thought it's gonna be positive trait eventually.
Things like this is what makes me love Mods on RTW (RTR nowadays) far more than R2TW mods.
To be fair, I would also think I was a god if I survived a volcanic eruption on horseback
Great game
ahhhh rome total war shorts yesplease
This is the kind of stuff that makes these old games so good. Theres so much flavor in just this feature
100% sure this also translates to the battle map as well. So if you do a battle during a Volcanic eruption, you'll actually see the Volcano spitting more smoke. (And maybe I imagining this) but it's actually pouring hard in floods and storms.
You would think it would actually be a beneficial trait considering the superstitious times and that people routinely viewed themselves as Gods in that time period. You'd think it would increase soldiers morale thinking they were following a leader that had been divinely chosen.
Best game ever
Homelander
Memento Mori
There were also earthquakes; it was very strange to see the earth shaking. XD
Nope typically my characters and generals never live disasters to tell the tale
I love battles near a volcano erupting, Is so epic and rare to see.
Oh man the details in this game 😵💫
It may mostly be a debuff but man I bet he makes killer speeches before battle.
i am a god
Psst, don't let Caligula see this, he would go to war with Neptune again.
Clearly, they never met Julianus Vatinius, the most Christian man who ever Christianed
I have seen volcanic eruptions on the battle map but I wonder if you can also see floods?
