Well, I experience nothing when I sleep. There’s no perception of time and no self-awareness. At best, I have dreams, but that’s what’s interesting — what even is a dream? People’s answers are always kind of predictable. But if a piece of fat with electrical signals can create a world inside itself, then nothing stops the world from existing beyond my brain. The point is, nobody really knows anything, because this is beyond our understanding.
Has anyone had an experience during surgery under anesthesia ? NO! When your brain was shut down you are completely without experience. So, when your brain dies your nothing but atoms that will return to the earth to be recycled.

Sleep without a dream has all the earmarks of death.
Energy creates firmand forms are finite. Therefore because we experience ourselves as forms once no form no experience of it. Humans are a product of sperm combining with an egg. Before our individual sperm is formed it cannot exist so it cannot experience itself when it's not there. Nor can there be any awareness beyond what gives it awareness. After death is just new forms coming into existence. Only energy itself is eternal and what is eternal is beyond life and death. Energy is not aware of life and death because life has to come to an end but energy can't come to an end. Confusing God and energy is where religion goes wrong and needs to stop.

Once the brain is dead then your dead and no chance of waking up ever again. Your entire memories are gone. Everything you every imagined stored in the brain gone wiped out. But when you were alive you had certain electronic impulses just by being alive were leaving the body. On some occasions your body put out higher energy because you had extremely high anxiety. But once your truly dead. Nope not going to go see your grandparents that died. Go play with your favorite pet. Because those bodies no longer exist. You are not going to stub a toe. Or go fishing by a peaceful lake hooking a fish in the mouth then smacking it in head to kill it. Then take it your heaven home and cook it up. But if people want to believe this not true. No problem. Whatever makes them feel good. Because to be truthful I have never been braindead gone out of body into a spirit world. Then woke up in the hospital and a nurse is screaming no way this man had no brainwave activity for the last 15 minutes. And he just woke up asking me for some coffee. But at this point in my life retired. There is a possibility I am at least half braindead. And by the day my brain activity is getting less and less . Til I am considered a vegetable. Then after unplug the machines his brainwaves stopped and that beeping is driving the patient in the other room crazy. And it is wasting electricity.

The near-death experiences that you describe could be some special form of paranormal ESP, coupled with very vivid illusions, that a dying brain sometimes produces. Or they could be the real deal. As stated, we just don't know.
I do have another concern. "If" consciousness itself is immortal, there is no logical reason why it would only apply to HUMAN consciousness.

Let me tell you about death. Falling asleep in front of the television minus the waking up. That's death for you in all its might and glory. A near-death experience is essentially: a just barely living experience. From the moment death actually comes in, there is no more awareness of life, nor of death. And it is precisely in that fact that you can find comfort because that means that we as humans can only know life. Death is a concept for those who remain, our neighbors and loved ones.
We live like mammals, we die like mammals; anything else can be traced back to fear of death, wishful thinking and the human ego that considers itself too special to be as perishable as all other entities in nature.

I've had an interest in NDE's ever since reading Raymond Moody's book 'Life After Life'. The topic is interesting for sure, but I keep thinking that there has to be a catch somewhere, the reports told by so many that they were in a state of being that was indescribably peaceful and pleasant always bringing out the cynic in me. Like the old saying goes, "If something sounds too good to be true, then it is".
In any case, nothingness, which is what so many cynical, self-proclaimed sceptics like to preach is what we'll all face is, in my view, highly unlikely. And when they preach it with such apparent glee, simply in order to "own the theists", I seriously question their sanity.
