  1. The real villain isn't just Leland Cross; it's the entire search and rescue system. They chose 'data' over a trained dog's clear signals. This story proves that modern protocols are often just excuses for human laziness and a lack of accountability.

  3. I grew up thinking my dad had died when I was two years old. I never thought about him. At 55 I bought a beautiful antique lamp. Out of the blue, I tapped it one night and said, “God what do you think about me meeting my dad one day.” That night I drifted off to sleep thinking about what it might be like to meet him….. After that I didn’t think any more about it. A couple of weeks later or so, I visited my brother in a hospital out of town. He suggested I go visit our cousin that I had not seen since I was about seven years old that was in the same hospital. After a very brief hello, he said I’m still good friends with your daddy’s brother. His wife immediately stood up and told him to shut up, that I didn’t know anything about that. Speechless and not wanting to cause an argument, I’ll let it go. On the way back home I started thinking about it and decided to call him and ask him about it. He began by saying he was so sorry that he didn’t know that I didn’t know. I told him that was fine. My cousin set it up for me to meet my uncle that lived about 120 miles away. Our meeting seemed as if it had always been. He set it up for me to meet my Dad that lived in Indiana. Dad called one Saturday. He was in Tennessee. I met him and it was wonderful!!! We didn’t discuss the why nots. I’d already decided there was no point in it, that we’d go forward. We could not change the past. As I was getting ready to drive back home he hugged me and told me he loved me. I’ll never forget those precious words. We had a wonderful relationship the next couple of years before he went to heaven. To me it was a totally unexpected miracle that I’m so thankful for to this day. Like I said earlier, we serve an awesome God.
