Well, mars is now unfortunately a totally contaminated planet and we were the ones who have created that contamination. The only time that there was any chance of getting pure and uncontaminated samples was in with the first two viking landings, they were the only craft that were treated for any kinds of contaminants and went there more or less sterile and free from any possible bacteria or anything else like that, but after the viking missions, the ships that were sent after were not really decontaminated as thoroughly before being deployed to get to the red planet and any kinds of analysis of sample materials that were taken from the planet could very well have been contaminated by a possible extremeophile that had hitched a ride on the spacecraft before launch somehow, or was it deliberate to create a self prophecised outcome of finding any kind of life on mars in the future. ❤
