Did we just witness the LIMIT of hurricane power?

Spread The Viralist

Hurricane Melissa could represent the maximum possible intensity of a hurricane, based on the Potential Intensity formula. Maiya May explains.

  1. The theoretical limit of what's physically possible to happen is not going to rise because the weather changes. If theorists, with their models, demonstrate that the theoretical limit may not, scientifically, be the limit, the theoretical limit will change, and if we have an actual storm, whether the general weather gets colder, warmer, or stays the same, that is greater than the current theoretical limit, if a limit is still theorized to exist, that limit will change.

But changes in weather are not going to make scientists, of all people, change their mind about what is physically possible on earth. And they knew that warmer weather was already physically possible when they made their minds up as to what storms are possible.
