While it is true that one object in one painting neither proves nor disproves anything about UFOs, the reality is that there are thousands of works of art spanning centuries or even millennia from all over the world that depict what might be considered flying machines in the air. Taken all together, one can't deny that something's up. The overwhelming majority of art depicts actual objects, people, places and events in the real world. Following Occam's Razor, one might conclude that if there are 1000s of ancient works of art that depict objects that look like UFOs, then the artists are probably painting UFOs…

Using the platform I champion the poor and educated to basically call everyone stupid. To be honest, for about a year I bought the snake oil he is selling then saw the truth he is no different than the people is calling out.
20 years ago a friend and I witnessed a nearly perfect equilaterally triangular object hovering less than 30 meters in the air off the side of a rural coastal highway. It was roughly the size of a 2000 ft² ranch house, it was matte black/stealth colored and definitely something extraordinary, we stopped the car we were in and got out to get a closer look but as we approached, it took off at an extreme rate of speed, so fast that within just seconds it was out of sight over the ocean, it was near noiseless except for the sound of the air gust it made as it departed similar to a hurricane or tornado. To this day we have yet to see anything in modern technology that resembles what we saw, this was close enough that had we attempted to, we could have tossed a tennis ball or similar object and easily hit it. There's definitely something out there way more advanced than anything the world's militaries are currently employing

Sad to see John Oliver throwing fuel on this topic. All indication is that Edward Condon was correct and aliens are nonsense. The fact is that we have no evidence of aliens at all. Worse all those claiming to have such evidence have long been shown to be hysterical nutters who profit from the gullibility culture.
As such John Oliver's "call" is just ignorant nonsense, we have already and long ago done every possible kind of honest inquiry, many times. But UFO thumpers just ignore their effort because like any religion they don't care about the evidence, as they've already chosen the conclusions that they want. Thus anything that disagrees with their idea is a cover up, or similar excuse.
Worse of all, John Oliver offers himself as an example of this depressing phenomenon of choosing to be ignorant and only giving lip service to free inquiry. This is from his own example of the Jimmy Carter UFO has been conclusively de-'Un-'ed and is now simply an identified flying object. The investigation and discovery was even carried out by the same blog, Skeptics Guide to the Universe, that John Oliver lifted the quote from. Meaning he just needed to click a bit further to find an answer to the 'mystery' which as always is never aliens.
If you're wondering the Carter UFO was an Air Force rocket launched to study the upper atmosphere by deploying a cloud of barium, which spreads out and glows odd colors at it falls. So essentially a very accidental and exotic firework device seen from a weird angle. It was part of one of many hundreds of small aerospace projects the military has long forgotten about. And therefore a fertile ground for anyone who's bad at identifying stuff to use for jumping to wild conclusions.
