THIS AMERICAN FILIPINA MOM is AWESOME! Philippines Surf Town (Baler Aurora)
Spread The Viralist

Irene is such a cool lady and it is so fun having moments with her in the Philippines!

This is just a little raw look at some moments during my production work. You will see some glimpses of the beautiful town of Baler in the Province of Aurora. This Provincial surf town is really charming, and full of good vibes! Just like our awesome production team… their vibes are freaking hilariously awesome!

Oh, and I headed back to Manila to catch up with Therine… who happened to be doing a guesting on TV with her social enterprise Likhang Maragondon!

Life is a little different in the Philippines for me this next month. Just keeping everyone updated on youtube!

  1. I was in Baler once with my friends from the records bar to take a swim but the heavy rains discouraged them taking a swim and so I swam alone on the beach taking on the big waves at that.

  2. Love your content. I’m a Filipina-Spanish born and raised in Hawaii. I have never been to the Philippines! Some of my siblings and I would like to visit one day as we are getting old. Your filming gives me a glimpse of where we could possibly go. Truthfully, I’m not even sure what part of the PI my parents came from. I think my mom is from Vegan. We are Ilocano. My father was a sakada hired to work in the sugar cane industry. Thank you, I thoroughly enjoy watching you blend into the culture, and am envious of your language acquisition.

  3. Baler Aurora should be promoted as a surfing area of the Central Part of Luzon. We need more foreign and local tourists to be here not just cramming on Siargao.

  4. 0:44 – That dude just chilling with his baby in one, wifey in the back, on a scooter, one-hand driving . . . dang; that is skills, then just decides to stop to say hi. . . dang

  6. Wow, I'm happy that Likhamg Maragondon has been showcased on tv so with other traditional products from Mindanao which I believe are more often seen.

Looking forward to watch the clips if not the whole.video of your filming project.

Alley Cat! Nice name of that restaurant .
Little story : My former employer's beautiful cat name is Alley, because she's been found in an alley. No one wants to claim her and the Animal Society said it's okay to adopt her. Hence, she's been my profile picture since.

  7. Kulas try to go to Dingalan Aurora, take Magsaysay road in Nueva Ecija, then Gabaldon, the view is so scenic there, then go to the viewpoint in Dingalan at the grotto , it is very beautiful there.

  8. Filipino dialects and Tagalog are so cool. I know Tagalog and I'm glad I can speak it (so proud of myself 😊) and want to learn visaya and other dialects as well. Those Filipinos/Filipinas that can't speak Tagalog or don't even try. Well.. too bad! To interact and speak to Filipino locals in Tagalog or a filipino dialect is much more fun than making them speak to you in English 🤨

And you met Therine in Manila.

  11. Sister nakakahiya ka, the naturalized filipino is telling you what is umbrella in tagalog. Kahit born and raised in other country try to teach your kids our national language. Some parents are paying for their ti learn multiple foriegn language
Why not start with basic, don't have to pay.

  12. Looks like you're doing a surfing film productions. Last time you were in Siargao, now here in Baler and for a guy who did not surf.🙂

  13. Kulas, Baler Bay was the location site to one of the greatest Hollwood movies ever made…."Apocalypse Now" starring Martin Sheen, Robert Duvall, Marlon Brando, and Harrison Ford. Baler Bay itself was where Robert Duvall said the famous line "I love the smell of napalm in the morning" as war helicopters hovered over him on the beach. Francis Ford Coppola, the director, paid the Marcos' government to use their military helicopters for the scene but they only had a window of 3 hours to use them. The locals saw the actors and crew surfing during the filming and adapted the sport after filming wrapped up and that's how Baler became known as the surfing capital of the Philippines! The entire movie was filmed on location in the Philippines. Pansanjan River in Laguna is where they filmed the final scenes with Marlon Brando. Years later, Martin Sheen's son Charlie Sheen would return to the Philippines to film the Academy Award-winning movie "Platoon".

  14. So many years I have been watching you and Finn ..so amazing..
I feel like we are all friends..although we have not met yet.
I will be there later this year and look forward to meeting you all ..
It's been 4 years plus I have been watching and preparing to move there .

  15. That Baler beach front looks like it's somewhere in SoCal until you go ground level and realize it's in the Philippines! Therine's a natural in front of the camera on TV. Must be all that vlog training/experiences she has gotten throughout the years in BecomingFilipino.

  16. How sad and funny that the Filipina had to have Kulas translate for her. It’ll be good for her to rediscover to her roots. 🇵🇭I am inspired how you are so immersed in our culture. Daghang salamat!
