Haemotoxic: This toxin attacks the circulatory system, which can cause bleeding or interfere with the blood’s ability to clot3. For example, Cottonmouth snakes have venom that can cause significant bleeding, both internal and external, as well as cause muscle damage and death to other tissues.
Neurotoxic: This toxin interferes with nerve impulse transmission. It often has a paralyzing effect, causing the victim’s body to become stiff or limp.
If left untreated, venomous snake bites can cause weakness, muscle damage, paralysis, and even death. In some cases, snake venom can cause damage to the bite area, leading to necrosis and possibly requiring amputation of the affected body part.
