A fortnight ago, with your incredible love and support, Animals Asia rescued five moon bears from a notorious bear bile farming hotspot in Vietnam.
Midnight, Noon, Dawn, Chronos and Twilight had lived in a dark room, in tiny cages they could just about turn around and lie down in, for 20 years.
For over 7,000 days they had absolutely nothing. They suffered repeated bile extraction, which was sold for traditional medicine.
Every minute since their rescue our bear care team has been making sure they’re comfortable and calm in the quarantine area at our sanctuary in northern Vietnam.
Let’s check in with Jill and the team to find out how the bears’ first week at sanctuary has been…
✳ An update on bear bile farming in Vietnam ✳
Now bear bile farming is illegal in Vietnam, Animals Asia is working tirelessly with the Vietnamese government and local communities to rescue around 300 bears who still languish on bile farms across the country.
Our current sanctuary is at capacity with 205 resident bears, so we are building a new sanctuary for the remaining bears.
The five bears we’ve just rescued will likely remain in our quarantine area until we can make some room for them at our current sanctuary, or until we can realistically move them to an area of the new sanctuary, whichever comes first.
But most importantly, we need your help to finish building this new sanctuary so we can reach the desperate souls who are still unknowingly waiting for us, before it’s too late.

Jill has such a heart for these bears. I loved how she touched her nose to illustrate to the bear where the mess on his face was. Just as you might do for a child.
You know Jill, you and your wonderful staff, should not be thanking us, we should be thanking you for having such good hearts. I am ashamed to say I knew nothing about this, till maybe 2 years ago, when I took out a sub, I feel quite ashamed I didn't help a long time ago.

'quite miraculous really…' The same could be said of Animals Asia. Their dedicated love for these tormented beings inspires awe. The bears themselves, with their wondrous beauty and deep gentleness, simply break one's heart.
Jill and the team, thank you so much for helping these beautiful bears! Hopefully, such cruelty will end one day soon. Hope the future is bright..
