  2. when i was growing up we got a sheltie (later, instead of the "family dog" she just became mine. i loved her dearly, and when i was old enough to move away from home, and got a place of my own she came with me. for my brother's birthday, when the sheltie was 7, my brother got a standard rough collie. the collie was a little smaller than the sheltie, and right away she let him know who was boss. later, when the sheltie was still about 25 lbs, and the collie had gotten on the larger end of the scale for his breed, at around 75 lbs, the sheltie was still boss lol! if he did something she didn't like, all she had to do was give a little growl and he immediately fell into line. it was very funny. my brother eventually moved into an apt where he couldn't keep the collie, and when the dog moved in with me he still minded the sheltie! shelties especially, but also collie breeds have always been my favorites. my 3 yr old niece spent the night once, when in the bedroom i heard her in the kitchen screaming "make him stop, make him stop". i ran as fast as i could and saw her trying to do something (that she probably should not have done) and this same collie was herding her into a corner. she wasn't yelling because she was hurt; instead, she was yelling because she was furious lol! through the yrs i have had 8 of these wonderful dogs, including sheltie, collie, border collie, and 3 mixes. in general they have lived long lives, and they are very intelligent.
