Natural disasters happened as a reminder to all of us to return to Allah. It's not a punishment, but the way of Allah to remind us because we are too busy to remember Him.

Your right that doesn’t mean everyone in the country is a sinner. For example earth quake in turkey God knows they’re mighty be lot of good religious that ppl died.

Think about how many people are associating partners with Allah. That in itself is rattling and shaking the Earth. Think about it. The Earth can’t handle people who are on it saying such words and so much sin being done on the Earth.
