Predators missed out on an easy meal.
The elephant ended up being eaten by hyenas. So no, it wasn't saved. It's life was extended long enough to experience being eaten alive. Humans should not have tried to "rescue" this doomed elephant.

One, why are there holes that seem to fit this elephant just nicely stuck in there? Vertical edges that seem to be dugged out. Two, if the hole is so small, how did the elephant even wandered into, or around it, looking for what? And fell just nicely stuck in it. Three, elephants are not solitary animals and their family bonding is strong. At least its mother will not leave it behind unless it dies.

So tragic that poor baby! Thank God for those men and women. The rescue looks so brutal but the poor thing was so close to death and stood no chance without that help. I hope he pulled through in the end as it’s clear more baby elephants die than live. Wish there was an update next day!!! Either way I am glad he didn’t die in that terrible hole. I bet he never attempted to get in a small pit ever again!!!!!
