  1. There is this species of animal who hunt and kill for sport and fun and even farm some for food. And still fight among themselves for many reason and destroy everything natural around them. And they do make documentaries about how bad others are 😂

  2. I don't find it disturbing in the least that Orca teach their offspring how to attack and kill prey using prey, nor do I think the prey was wasted because the Orca didn't eat it. The value was from the training, there was no waste. For being a professional nature photographer supposedly warning against anthropomorphism Steve Backshall seems to do a whole lot of anthropomorphic puzzling over why the Orca wouldn't eat a training tool, and then lots of gushing over Sea Lions great big anime eyes, boo hoo. Sorry Steve at that point it's not a Sea Lion it's A) A training Tool, or B) Food, and you wouldn't be feeling that way if it were a bug so stop being childish and be professional. Which is the cue for the standard self-flagellant reminder that Humans, not Orca, not Sea Lions, not any other beast current or past are the horrible, wretched undisciplined killers we Humans are. So don't get the idea that the empathy we alone feel when we see another animal being harmed is anything to feel good about, oh no, you my friend are a beast not worth loving thinks Steve and his ilk. I suspect he and those like him have no issues turning off anthropomorphism when viewing our own species, big anime eyes or otherwise.

  3. Seems like Steve is a professional overreactor, the way he described it you would think the orcas electrocuted the seal and pulled its fingernails. It was uncomfortable yes but not cruel, theres no such thing as cruelty in their world, theyre animals.

  4. While I find Orcas utterly fascinating, the more I learn about them, the more I don't like them. I know it's irrational, but I'm just being honest. I put hyenas in the same category. Maybe it has to do with the high hunting success rates of these animals, and what appears to me from a human perspective, as needlessly cruel behavior.
I've watched the attack and kill behavior of lions, cheetahs, etc., yet I don't have the same reaction towards them . And maybe that has to do with their lower success rates as hunters and that most of the kills are consumed.

  5. I had just made a comment to my husband that we were the only species on the planet that killed for sport and not just food. And lo and behold not five minutes later scrolling through YouTube I come across this video and was proved completely wrong. Firstly I want to say that I really appreciate the hard work and everything that you guys have done tonight just a short video. It's such a learning experience and extremely valuable knowledge I feel in our quest as human beings to learn about the other species on the planet. It is absolutely insane to me that Orcas do such , for lack of a better term, cruel and evil-type of actions!!!! I've been fascinated by Killer Whales for years and so much has come out about them , doing things ( like precision surgery to Great Whites for their livers!!) We as humans , didn't think even POSSIBLE for animals to do!! This was a GREAT video and I thank u for sharing with the world such fascinating things!!

  6. Usually this is because, the pups are finally coming into the age where they should be helping the hunt, especially if they've been the reason why, they the Lost several hunt oh, it's the same thing with a pride of lions, they will go after us spring hair, or a baby gazelle, a baby Impala, that's super small prey, exactly never feed their pride, and they will bring it back alive, and give it to the Cubs to play with, and hopefully that they will kill it, and then they start taking their cubs, and pups, out on hunts, with them but make them stay back, and watch and learn, but once they are a year old, that's when orcas start doing this behavior, to their pups, and you know lion pride, when they start bringing the small animals that, for the Cubs to play with, this is usually when they're between the ages of about 5 and 6, then they will start following the Lions, when they're a year old, and that's when they will start ruining hunt for them, because they're not patient at all, and they give the whole Pride away, before they can set up a trap, and work together, because the first thing that they see, they think they can just start running like a cheetah, when they're nowhere near close enough to The pray, and this is bigger game, like wildebeest and zebras, one of their all-time favorite Foods, but when teaching, at the time when they must learn how to pull their own weight, usually is wildebeest, because the risk is not as great, as hunting zebras, Because by the time they're two years old, both Orca pups, and lion pups, we'll have to help in the hunt, so the all-time dangerous prey, because there are seals available for the the pod orcas, like they only returned to the place that they go every year, weather is Argentina, Antarctica, or South Africa, to where the seals will be breathing, and it's easy to catch a bunch of pups, as they are abandoned, after birth, once they get to age, to where they can see, and adults try to start teaching them out to swim, and due to hunger, the adult leave to go fishing, and the pups, are not everywhere that Black fins means death, so that's one their lessons, are taught to them, so that they learn the art of killing, and how they work as a team, because now, that there are no more seal pups, and the will division zebras have started migrating, during the dry season, for both lions, and orcas, it's time for the big game, for the Lions this means Cape buffalo, the most dangerous prey that there is, and has killed hundreds of lions before, and for the orcas, this means, taking on adult whales weigh tons, in order to kill its calf, and sometimes they have to take on an adult whale, this is why these dolphins, are named Killer Whales, so there is no more time for playing around, they need to be ready to help, and are expected to go out, and help with the hunt, and to pull their own weight.

  7. I appreciate this video. Also this guy is pretty sexy, but @ 3:47 “they do share a common ancestor with us” LoL, goofy because that was Mesozoic & like… all organisms share a common ancestry. Whatever, he’s hot.

  8. Guess what BBC,because you know it better, people work for more than a salary to live. And kill not for food, but for pleasure and benefits. I see no wild Orcas attacking humans, but i see humans killing and destroying without stop. Guess again who's the killer.

  9. If you've ever been in a kayak (this video appears to be from a tourist) – you know the Orca would eat you in 1 second if the wished. Me & my wife watched Orcas in WA state hunt at sunset. It was so fast (they were 10-25 mph) – the male orcas had fins 6' tall & you just went "whoooa. These cousins are closely related to us (in both biologic & mental components) – I truly hope they survive. Perhaps they will tell the story of those land-beings-turned-incinerated-wastelings.
