I think the main reason why the Japanese entertainment industry is kicking the collective @$$es of Hollywood & its ill ilk is because they know how badly that the Wokist Cult have been butchering their work for years. They're determined to show the world that the original source material is still the best.
@9:54 – I'm not sure why but the still shot at this point slammed a particular quote into my head & I just couldn't seem to get rid of it. It's a quote from an entirely different movie from a number of years ago but it's unintentional humor is what made this quote stick in the minds of so many people since then.
"Quint! We're going to need a bigger boat."
~Sheriff Brody
"'Nuff said."
~Stan (The Man) Lee
Your 3 rules could be condensed into one. "Show us the damn monster." And minus one shows. It isn't afraid, it's proud to show you the G-man in full glory. And glorious he is. Outside of a scant few moments you almost can't tell it's CGI. Perhaps my only criticism is that some parts of the movie can be fairly predictable, especially if you watch alot of anime. But I'll gladly take a predictable blast of a movie over another "subversion of expectations" pile of garbage hollywood spits out every weekend.
Do yourself a favor and see this movie. Reward the effort and passion of the people who made it and remind yourself what a good movie looks like.
I absolutely loved this movie! The human story could have been its own movie and would’ve held my attention easily. The way they blended Gojira and such an emotional story so seamlessly could only have come from Japan! Godzilla is and always has been their creation and no one can do it better than them. Side note. One of the people I watched the movie with wasn’t as pleased with it as I was. Between the subtitles and the 2 bowls he smoked before we left he wasn’t in the mood for a serious drama set against a Godzilla backdrop. He wanted a monster smashing buildings movie and his brain was switching off after 45 minutes. He was the only one out of 4 that was disappointed but I think if he watches it again with the voices dubbed and his head clear he will change his mind.
I agree 100%, there was nothing about this movie that I could find fault with, and I especially liked that it wasn't an "origin story." Godzilla is already established as existing in universe as something the people on the island of Odo are familiar with. More than that, I appreciated the way it depicted the characters attitudes towards the war, the trauma of survivor's guilt, and the idea that there's no honor or redemption in a suicide mission that means leaving the people who love and need you alone and in need.
After 11 days, YouTube finally allowed me to view this video. Thanks YT. A wonderful review of this film, so much so that I’m going to make it a point to see this on the big screen. Thank you my Liege for convincing me to do so.
I liked King of the monsters and Pacific Rim. Watched Gojira minus 1 last night and the whole fam loved it. Go see it, it’s a good movie and you can give hollyweird the finger in the process
brilliant movie, was fortunate enough to watch here in Germany (not many dates) and the cinema was way more crowded, than expected!
I HAVE seen every Godzilla movies and it is the best Godzilla movie.
Stomped, burned and eaten… I love it! I watched this movie last Saturday. It was beyond awesome.
I saw this movie last weekend! Without a doubt its a great movie!
This is now the third time I have to re-subscribe after being ghost-scribed! 😡
Loved it. Probably the only "Hollywood" moments I found a little jarring were a couple of sequences in Ginza that seemed a little plot armor-ish. No spoilers. But this is a very minor quibble.
My friends and I are long time Godzilla fans and we have it a B-
The character development was good. The personal pain was palpable. The only downsides for us were, not enough monster time. Too much character development (at times I wondered if Godzilla would make a meaningful appearance. One good long city stomp scene would have balanced things out. A few too many classic tropes.
Still, an enjoyable movie, and much much better than many other Godzilla films over the last 15-20 years.
Saw it this morning and it blows away the American attempts. Loved the characters and their journey.
Finally a good movie for the fans.
I agree Doomcock! This is the first Godzilla movie where i actually gave a shit about the human characters! My only critique is that i wish that the US would've played some part in helping the Japanese instead of stating that they didnt want to upset the russians? WTF? It was the end of WW2! If anything the damn commies were afraid of us! We had the bomb and they didn't! Anyways, i thoroughly enjoyed this movie! The acting, the story, the special effects were well done! My daughter who is not a Godzilla fan absolutely loved this movie just on the human aspect! And best of all, no wokeness or political agenda!!! Christmas came early this year my friend!!! Have a good one and yes im staying angry!!! 😅👍❤️
There's been a little bit of a trend the last couple of years with western fans of all sorts of media starting to appreciate and support Japanese and other far east artists, and I believe I may know why. Japan still embraces it's traditional culture of the "spiritual warrior" which lends itself to both great mythology/storytelling, and some of the best poetry, art, and lyric-driven music that a connoisseur of such things could ask for.
The greatest example of this is the "elder statesman" Metal/Rock of the Japanese band Ningen Isu. Watching the reaction videos of American musicians and Rock fans to their song/video for "Heartless Scat" is an exercise in pure joy because EVERYONE gets hit by the same unexpected 10 Ton Truck these guys in their mid to late 60's are driving. And when they finally released a version with English subtitles for the lyrics, you REALLY got your ass handed to you in the most profound of ways.
Now, contrast THAT with the pathetic shit-show of a western country being culturally demolished by the literal lowest common denominator in a hell-bent quest for "Full Retard", and is it any wonder that people like you and I would naturally gravitate toward ANY situation where they still include substance on the menu?
I dont think it was suit guy
Gmans eyes can be seen and its amazing. The CGI was great. They put clouds or mist in front to save money and it worked
I finally saw it today. My goodness. I agree, one of the best movies in years!
One of the greatest arcs in this movies is that of the citizens of the country standing up for themselves and not relying on the government or other countries. I take it as a lesson for our countries citizens to stand up and take back our country.
My son and I watched G minus one and it was spectacular. Especially for me, I grew up watching Godzilla movies as a young BOY. My son actually tested up during the movie several times. GO SEE IT!!!!!
I haven't seen it yet and always find your reviews on target, Doomcock, but I don't understand how there can be a Godzilla in WW2 when he didn't come about until atomic experiments in the post war Pacific occurred. That said, it still looks great! GO GO GODZILLA!! 👍
Just saw this. What a great film. Great story, acting and story. It was emotional…a Godzilla movie…but it was exciting, intense, tender and realistic…a Godzilla movie. Watch it. Will be buying the 4K. Toho did an amazing job. Well done.
World War 2? Wasn't Godzilla's whole thing that he was created by radioactive contamination? How does he show up pre-Hiroshima?
A little competition would shake the complacency of Hollywood. I didn’t mind Pacfic Rim.
I like the Japanese Godzilla better.
15 million went to CGI, and making this movie look spectacular..love me some Godzilla big fan.
I've run across 5 channels this week alone that I know I was subscribed to and I wasn't anymore.
That's shady shit, especially since I pay for premium. I'm about done with YT all together…
Just resubscribed. I subscribed years ago and just realized I no longer was. Yay YouTube
During a nuclear test a Japanese fishing boat was caught by the bomb an crew was poisoned. This caused outrage in Japan.
The original movie had Godzilla hunting the men from that boat, killing them one by one as radiation does. The antinuclear message was censored in USA and heavy editing and changes in dubbing made it just another monster movie in USA. It was way worse than the level of censorship people blame on China today.
It had a strong antinuclear message that was deleted.
who is this masked jerk? If you aren't brave enough to say what you feel without a mask, why should I care what you have to say?
GOOD 👋 DAY 🐲 MATE! 💯% Agree 👍 Overlord! 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 out of 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 OutStanding Good!
Glad to see Doomcock doing something else than the same SW news. I always loved Godzilla. I will catch this one for sure. Best way to hurt Disney at this point is simply to ignore them and move on Bashing them constantly over 8 years hasn't done a thing to cause them to change direction.
Yes, they unsubscribed me.
This Godzilla move was one of my favorites of all time. I do care about the characters. To the point I was almost sad at times.
Holy Crap, never heard anything about this movie coming out and i get to watch it in the movie theaters!?!? Hell yeah, haven't been to the theater in YEARS and the big man himself has always been loved since i was a child. Looks like something worth my $$ to watch on the big screen for once, i can taste the popcorn already 😂
