The launch of HMS Albion in 1898 was meant to be a momentous event. However, joy quickly turned to terror when a wave created by the ship caused a viewing platform to collapse. Many people died and the tragedy was caught on film.

  1. Women’s clothing of the time soaked up water quickly, a king it VERY heavy in no time, even their swimming costumes. When swimming became popular for women they had to take a life preserver in the water with them to keep them from drowning. Within minutes their clothing would have weighed more than they did.

  2. Mr. Well I Never : very sad story , it impacted my heart . there is a real story about a big ship that got in fire I think in the late 1800 or in the early 1950. the ship was called MOROCASTRE and was coming from Cuba and 132 people dye . I would love hearing details from you .
