Supporters of Israel and backers of the Palestinian cause held competing rallies in Times Square in New York City on Sunday over the conflict that has killed hundreds and wounded thousands in the Middle East.
The Israeli government formally declared war Sunday on Hamas militants in Gaza, setting the stage for a massive Israeli military response to the Islamist militant group’s surprise attack on the Jewish state.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had already said Saturday his country was at war with Hamas as the militants’ attack raged, but his assessment was rhetorical. The Cabinet decision was an official declaration of war.
Ahead of the Cabinet vote, Netanyahu declared that Israel would “take mighty vengeance” against Hamas, even as Israeli soldiers battled Hamas fighters Sunday in the streets of southern Israel and launched retaliatory airstrikes that leveled buildings in Gaza.
The White House said President Joe Biden ordered unspecified additional support for Israel after he and Vice President Kamala Harris heard a report on the attack from national security officials.
Hamas and Israel have fought four wars since Hamas took control of Gaza in 2007.
The U.N. Security Council called an emergency meeting for Sunday to discuss the latest violence. #israel #palestine #gaza

You want me to believe that a bunch of middle aged millennial leftists who are the most politically active and educated age demographic in modern history – have “Free Palestine”banners and flags at the ready and the organization and networking to coordinate multiple similar protests around the globe in NATO countries immediately after a Hamas terrorist attack on Israel, creating significant pushback from the Israeli-Zionist-nationalist supporting right wing, which has rocketed Israel (as a nation) back into the spot light of being a victim?
The victims here are the Israeli and Palestinian civilians.

Why do people fight? Because of religion? For me, the Christian, Muslim and Jewish God are the same God. Even Jesus, the God of Christians, appears in the Koran. Does it make sense to fight each other? There have been so many wars in history because of faith. Why? Humanity does not learn from its mistakes. Hamas should be ashamed of killing and raping women and children! I can understand that they are unhappy with their life in the country, but killing someone is sick. And Israel should ask itself how to deal with Palestine. But who should they negotiate with? With Hamas? War only brings hatred. Humanity is destroying itself. The signs are bad for humanity. Soon there will be chaos everywhere as the wars over drinking water begin…⁶
