  1. For me it’s not the fear of stalling on a hill it’s rolling back on a hill. I usually don’t stall on a hill but usually roll back even by a tiny amount or a big amount. I’ve been trying to master this technique when using in the hill.

Plus a good tip is lift the handbrake even more than needed compared to a normal gradient allowing the parking brake to hold on. I used to bring the handbrake till I could hear one or two clicks but my car rolls back so I have to pull it even more so that I can be stationary on hills and allow me to get the biting point and gas quickly.

Usually, it’s the biting point where I have not been getting on a hills which causes me to roll back.

  2. Thanks. I passed my test a while ago but I'm not confident on hill starts after having a big problem once on a steep hill and it's been my biggest mental block to driving. I haven't been giving it much gas before taking my foot off the clutch. I tend to go more clutch first. It generally works but it always feels kind of touch and go. I'm gonna try this. I wish I was made more aware of this issue of what revs you start from on my lessons.

  3. What about not using the handbrake as myself doesn’t want to always use it, plus im in a volvo c30 and the handbrake isn’t as close by as most other cars

  4. Hello the other day I was turning left on a uphill junction and I freewheeled I asked my instructor he said I wasn’t braking enough as I was in second gear. I asked him how do I fix this he said when turning brake lightly and hold clutch half way. I honestly don’t know how to turn at junctions

  5. In traffic on a hill I have to use handbrake all the time, I'm just too heavy handed with the pedals& afraid I'll go into back of the car in front if I try creep with the clutch & gas

  6. Thanks for wonderful tutorials. In this tutorial you have nicely explained how to
Drive in up hill. Could you please also explain how to drive up hill in reverse gear

  7. So there was this time when I literally went up a steep hill at walking pace in 2nd gear and stalled, then the car started to roll back and I panicked. My instructor had to use the dual controls to keep the car still and it was so embarrassing!
