12. It's best to let the goat clean out(expel the after birth) on it's own. The weight of the afterbirth on the outside helps to encourage the afterbirth to come out whole. Doubly important if it is an equine. In that case you need to also lay out the afterbirth to be sure that all the uterine horns are accounted for. Reason for being so careful is to prevent infections from retained torn bits of the placenta. After the babies arrive you can use an iodine dip for the umbilical cord on the baby, also more important with equines. That helps prevent navel ill , sicknesses or infections, coming though the umbilical cord and encouraging it to dry up and fall off as normal.
