i grew up in woodstock (where overlook mountain and the garden cafe are, not catskill) and the third story smacks of the kind of rural poor stereotypes some people buy into when they watch one dumb horror movie and have never spent a night out in the woods. these people never even saw their "attackers" and the conclusion they jump to of it being a human trafficking attempt is laughable, as well of their absolute certainty that it was connected to their "creepy" encounter with a socially awkward woman. There are a lot of "characters" in my hometown, and if any of them had been trying to find "victims" i and many of my friends would have been great choices taking long solo nighttime walks along the side of the road as a teen. incidentally airbnb and other short-term rentals have created a housing crisis in the region, driving up rent and forcing many local working-class people out of homes they've lived in for years. if either of these people were actually harmed, or even threatened with harm instead of spiraling because someone knocked on the door, it would be a different story. but if some locals decided to mess around with the tourists and managed to scare them out of town, that's pretty funny and i wish i'd heard this story back when i lived with my parents because there were SO many walking distance airbnbs i could have fucked with.

The pumpkin farm one is weird. Maybe the middle-aged farmer knew exactly who the old couple were and was for some reason trying to pretend that he didn't, almost like he didn't want to admit to knowing those people or what was really going on. Perhaps they were his creepy and mentally incompetent old parents and he'd rather they just kept out of the way.
Or perhaps they were sarcastic and joking about "take what you want" and OP just didn't pick up on it.
Also a very special word in celebration of Story 2. Praise be, Jack G. is probably the first person in Mr. Nightmare history who didn't yell out "iM cALLiNg tHe PoLiCe!!!!!!" through a PA system and cause the suspect to flit, instead choosing to keep quiet and actually let the police catch that guy red handed so he would be arrested and dealt with. if I was a cop I'd be absolutely livid if a victim scared off the would-be criminal before we got there – it's a total waste of cop time and that person will be free as a bird and probably will do it again.
