Extreme flooding in coastal areas

Spread The Viralist

Climate change has just became real, causing extreme flooding in coastal areas particularly in Western Cape.

This coastal area has experienced high rise in water levels which resulted in dangerous and costly flooding in the Western Cape. eNCA speaks to Dr Jan De Vynck a Paleo-ecolgist at the University of the Witwatersrand. #DStv403

  1. Interviewer really pushing his own view climate change down the professors throat in an attempt to ratchet up the fear mongering hmm?

Not very professional, but very expected.

For your own benefit, Google what percentage of our atmosphere is carbon dioxide. Then Google what gas plants absorb to grow. Then Google the term "grifter."

  2. This interviewer is really trying to push the global narrative of 'people being responsible' when our impact is mininal… as the Dr pointed out, climate naturally goes through radical and cyclical changes and has for thousands of years. It is also tied into the increasing solar flare activity and Earth's waning magnetic field.

  3. ""Scare mongers incorporated" agreed with comments below is unplanned urban sprawl and lack of relevant maintenance on drain storm channels — making sure that they are kept clear.
How long did you search to find someone to agree (sort of) with your biased reporting — and you really tried to drag out the words you wanted to hear.
We were not alive 200 years ago to say what the weather was like

  4. Floods happen…..its nature…..we only paying more attention to this due to social media. Nature changes and what has happened in the past does not mean you can measure the future.

  5. De Vynk's argument that any of the observed warming is due to orbital cycles is preposterous to say the least. Those cycles work out over tens of thousands of years, and are currently pointing negative, towards global cooling. Solar output has also been in slight decline since at least the 1960s, yet over the same period the earth has warmed at a rate almost unheard of in the paleo record.

    Per NASA:

"[P]aleoclimate evidence reveals that current warming is occurring roughly 10 times faster than the average rate of warming after an ice age. Carbon dioxide from human activities is increasing about 250 times faster than it did from natural sources after the last Ice Age."

    https://climate.nasa.gov/evidence.amp

"Not only is the planet undergoing one of the largest climate changes in the past 65 million years, scientists report that it's occurring at a rate 10 times faster than any change in that period."

    https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/08/130801142420.htm

Which is part of the reason that just about every scientific organisation on the planet agrees that modern warming is nearly exclusively driven by human activity. This is unequivocal, and has certainly not been a point of debate in the scientific world for the last 20-30 years or so.

It is absolutely true, though, that some of the impacts of these floods have been exacerbated by the increase in built-up area, not to mention lack of maintenance of stormwater drains etc. But it is equally true that more frequent and severe flooding is one of the predicted outcomes of modern warming. This is in part because a warmer atmosphere can hold significantly more water vapour, creating the potential for stronger downpours and resulting flash floods.

  6. Go outside and see the skies are never blue anymore. The clouds are not normal clouds anymore like decades ago. Wits Prof told us in 2016 that the atmosphere is going to be sprayed to reflects the sunrays back to the sun. But metal et al. nano particles are sprayed to manipulate weather with haarp et al. and to dry out the atmosphere and make people sick. Not human impact – but evil manipulation by must be government et al.

  7. De Vynk is wrong to the suggest that the current planetary warming can be explained by Milankovitch cycles (he called this the Malinowski theory). It is also not debatable that the majority of this change is anthropogenic.

  8. Co2 is only 0,04 %of the atmosphere ? And humans only contribute 3 % of that ??? Small number go figure this bulshit ! Its natural and sea levels are not rising data shows this ? – dont trust these funded Scientists – just like the Covid bull shit you all just saw !

  9. Using the word Climate chage is another word for global warming and its all bull? Its a natural phenomenon and has nothing to do with CO2 – its normal adapt

  10. Not one mention of the CMEs currently hitting earth, on an almost weekly basis, as we head towards solar maximum in 2025, the climate experts come from the same corporates that the "health experts" come from.. Happy to see so many of my fellow south Africans wide awake to this nonsense.

  11. Climate change is a CONSTANT that we live with everyday and has been as long as the earth remains, this hype is a hoax aimed at controlling people, stealing from people etc, nonsense

  12. Climate change se gat. It's a natural cycle … but the narrative was pre-empted and was on the agenda for WEF WHO and UN….. climate change is a natural phenomenon… drop the propaganda to monopolize on nature.

  13. and lets see how organised western cape is vs eastern cape this week – it will be like chalk and cheese – one cant argue against fact with woke populist communist bs the truth hits like covid did – no hiding from it

  14. If the people stop throwing their trash in the streets, they wont have this kind of problem….. Why are some places cleaner than others?? =because they look after their areas properly..

  15. CLIMATE CHANGE IS HAPPENING ALL THE TIME. AND WHAT PERCENTAGE IS CO2 OF THE ATMOSPHERE -FAR LESS THAN 1 PERCENT The climate change advocates work for the club of 300 – same feodal system that was in place in France before the ordinary people took control

  16. The flooding is due to an increase in urban expanse. Surface runoff INCREASES because water absorption per soil area has been reduced. DURRR. More hard surfaces eg roads, car parks etc = less water absorption by soil, consequently more surface water.

House and property walls retain more water per stand, increasing ground water build up, which on slopes = mudslides, building collapse owing to sub surface water pressure build up.

Building on slopes now, highly dangerous, like the informal settlements on river verges.

  17. What a load of rubbish, not Global warming! How is it that for years the weather man has been way off in predicting accurate weather and suddenly they know know exactly when and where flooding and fires will take place. Anybody notice the warning that went out a few days ago predicting which towns in the Cape were going to be flooded???? And fires in Bloemfontein area??? It is hard to tell if we are dealing with real weather trends or something else? Lots of evidence from sane professionals who are showing there is something else at play here in SA and in the rest of the world!!! NOT Global Warming!!!
