Mackenzie Shirilla to be sentenced in deadly Strongsville crash

19-year-old Mackenzie Shirilla will soon learn her fate when she’s sentenced today on multiple charges in connection with a deadly 2022 crash that claimed the lives of 20-year-old Dominic Russo and 19-year-old Davion Flanagan.

The sentencing, which is set for 1 p.m., comes one week after Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Nancy Margaret Russo found Shirilla guilty of all counts — including four counts of murder, four counts of felonious assault and two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide.

“This was not reckless driving. This was murder,” Judge Russo said moments before announcing her verdict in the bench trial on Aug. 14.

It’s a case that dates back to Sunday, July 31, 2022, when Strongsville police say a crash happened at 6:15 a.m. near the intersection of Progress and Alameda. Upon their arrival, officers say they located a Toyota Camry “with severe damage and full airbag deployments.”

All three occupants inside the vehicle — including Shirilla — were unconscious, not breathing and trapped inside the vehicle. Russo (Shirilla’s boyfriend) and Flanagan were both pronounced dead at the scene.

  1. We're just gonna skip over the fact that she was 17, he was 20, and they were in a relationship for 3 years? Where I come from that's called statutory rape, even in Ohio it's a no-no. Knowing how crooked the legal system is in Ohio, I'm not surprised at the story they came up with. But, also knowing that there were several recalls for faulty mechanisms on her specific car, including fuel delivery/fuel management, the idle air control valve (which can lead to rapid uncontrolled acceleration), as well as the hydraulic power brake assist. Either of those issues alone could cause a car to lose control and crash, all 3 of those combined could be catastrophic. She has more than enough on her side for an appeal, and I hope it doesn't take very long for her to be able to go back home.

  2. I'm from Brazil, and watching this news where she was going to be sentenced, is it true that she did it on purpose and got life imprisonment? thank you in advance, hugs american friends..🤙

  3. She needs to rot in jail and hopefully leading up to her demise she will make "lots of new friends" behind bars!

Her family must be so very proud of her

  4. Why let your 17 year old daughter party all night? She shouldn't have been out driving then in the first place.

  5. She selfishly took the lives of two young Men. Compassion is not the first thing that comes to my mind when the lives of two human beings were snuffed out with no concern for devastation she would leave behind. A life for a life.

  6. I don't understand the motive? What is the motive for her to murder her boyfriend and friend ??? it doesn't make sense. I didn't watch the case but what is their working theory ? That because she smoked a bit of weed earlier on that she then thinks 'I think I'll kill us all in a car crash….' ???? what ?

  7. Being young and stupid is a typical thing in "everybody". She was stupid, and had some dangerous options to do things stupidly. She definitely deserve to be in jail but she still deserved some kind of mercy because she did it ignorantly. She is not a mature person. With all this taken into account, she should be in prison for at least 15 years, and at least 10 years probation, and should do some type of service for the family she cause the pain to. Only because she is young, ignorant, and its probably her first time doing something like this. You got to know when to show mercy and when to not show mercy. Don't treat her like she was always a killer.
